The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled right-hander Joe Martinez and selected the contract of left-hander Mike Zagurski from Triple-A on Tuesday.
To make room on the roster, they optioned left-hander Joe Patterson to Reno and designated for assignment right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo.
Patterson had not retired any of the final 10 batters he faced over two appearances, allowing seven runs. In 2 2-3 innings overall, Patterson allowed 11 runs on 15 hits with three walks and zero strikeouts.
Albaladejo appeared in one game, giving up two hits and striking out one.
Zagurski allowed two earned runs in nine innings and held opponents to a .103 batting average in six games for Reno. Martinez was 0-1 in three starts, posting a 4.42 ERA.

PHOENIX Justin Upton is starting to feel good again, which should send a shudder through the rest of the National League.
Upton can carry a team, as he did the Diamondbacks for a three-month stretch of 2011, and he showed indications of returning to those good old days in a 9-5 victory over Philadelphia on Monday that was 9-0 entering the ninth inning.
He had his first RBI of...
In December I went to the Baseball Winter Meetings and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It’s all baseball all the time; what more could any baseball fan ask for?
During my time at the meetings I met Nello Gamberdino a Lawyer from Chicago Illinois. He is also an aspiring sports agent who owns NPG Sports and represents over 17 professional minor league baseball...
The phrase "Free Trevor Bauer" has been popularized by ESPN analyst Keith Law in recent week. Bauer, the third overall pick in last summer's draft out of UCLA, is widely thought of as a guy who could have started the season in the majors. The Diamondbacks took the conservative route with Bauer, and started him at AA Mobile. In 22 2/3 innings, Bauer has struck out 28...
PHOENIX -- In a minor bullpen shakeup Tuesday, the Diamondbacks recalled Mike Zagurski and Joe Martinez from Triple-A Reno.
In corresponding moves, the team optioned Joe Paterson to Reno and designated Jonathan Albaladejo for assignment. The right-hander Albaladejo, recalled Saturday when starter Daniel Hudson went on the disabled list, made his lone appearance Monday night, tossing...
The Diamondbacks have added to their organizational depth by acquiring 3B Josh Bell (assigned to AAA Reno) and OF Brent Clevlen (to AA Mobile). The recent injury to OF Chris Young and the slow start by 3B Ryan Roberts have highlighted the organization's lack of position player depth in the upper minors, and both newcomers could find themselves with opportunities at the Major...
The Arizona Diamondbacks have dealt with as many injuries this month as they did throughout all of last season. Top-of-the-rotation starter Daniel Hudson is the latest to suffer an injury, and the D-backs have decided to let swingman Wade Miley fill in rather than turn to one of their top prospects in the minors.
Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Trevor Bauer has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on April 22. That is not enough to earn him a major league callup, however, even with Daniel Hudson heading to the disabled list.
PHOENIX -- It was in many was the homestand from hell.
The Diamondbacks lost seven games and three players in the 10-game homestand that concluded with a 7-2 loss to dominant Philadelphia left-hander Cole Hamels on Wednesday afternoon. Hamels retired 18 straight batters after Willie Bloomquist opened the game with a double, and the D-backs could not overcome the Phillies' four...
We all know that Larry Andersen is never shy to show his passionate and intense side when covering a baseball game on the radio. Yesterday, though, saw something
In the bottom of the first inning, after Willie Bloomquist sent a double in to left field Aaron Hill popped up behind the plate on an 0-2 count from Cole Hamels for an out, but with Willie Bloomquist running toward third...
Cole Hamels pitched eight strong innings and also hit a two-run single Wednesday as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2.
Hamels (3-1) gave up a leadoff double to Willie Bloomquist in the first, then retired the next 18 batters.
The left-hander allowed two runs and four hits. He struck out seven, including his final three hitters.
Hamels' single capped...
