Upton has been the Diamondbacks’ outfielder garnering most
of the offseason spotlight, but Olney adds that Arizona feels like they have a
good chance at “getting suitable value” for Kubel, should they decide to trade
The Diamondbacks currently have four starters in their
outfield, including Upton, Kubel, Cody Ross and Gerardo Parra. Arizona also has
young outfield candidates such as Adam Eaton waiting in the wings. For this
reason, it appears the club will trade one of their extra outfielders before
the start of spring training.
Upton is the bigger name because of his age, 25, and
impressive track record, .278/.357/.475. However, teams are also expressing
interest in Kubel as a one-year option with a relatively affordable contract.

Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap to another team. In this case, it's the Braves that deserve the tip of the cap for making a deal for Justin Upton that rivals the type of deal the Phillies should have made in the past.
The Braves pulled it off. Justin Upton will be joining his brother B.J. Upton in the Braves' outfield in 2013. Surprisingly though, the Braves traded their would-be third baseman Martin Prado to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the deal. Here's how the deal breaks down, courtesy MLB.com's Mark Bowman and...
Justin Upton and B.J. Upton accomplished a rare feat last season when they both cracked their 100th career home run on the same night. If they repeat any milestones going forward, it could be while both wear the same uniform.

The Diamondbacks have traded Justin Upton again. This time, he’s actually going away. After he rejected a deal to Seattle, they’ve found a new trade partner in the Atlanta Braves, and have crafted a pretty interesting deal that isn’t at all similar to the one they previously tried to make.
In exchange for Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson, the Diamondbacks reportedly...

On why Prado was expendable:
Prado under club control for only one more season. Asked for $7.05M in arg, #Braves offered $6.65M. Eligible for free agency end of year.
