The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to sign Cody Ross to a three-year deal worth $26mm, Mark Feinsand of The New York Daily News reports. The deal also includes a fourth year club option with a $1mm buyout (Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and XM Radio provided contract details). The Phillies, Red Sox, Rangers Braves were among the clubs that were most interested in Ross. Back in September, Ross went on record saying that he wanted to sign with a contender. “No. 1 this season is probably going to be winning. I'm to that point where I want to win. I can't see myself going and signing where I'm not going to win.” The deal allows Ross to play for his home town team as he lives in Arizona. In 528 plate appearances for the Red Sox in 2012, Ross hit .267/.326/.481 with 22 HR's, 81 RBI's and a .345 wOBA. The signing could signal a Justin Upton or Jason Kubel trade is in the works. We know that the Rangers were heavily interested in Upton, and the fact they have missed out on every other main target this offseason could motivate them to up their offer.
