Gary DiSarcina, the former Angels shortstop who was recently promoted to special assistant to General Manager Jerry Dipoto, confirmed Tuesday that he is leaving the organization to manage the Boston Red Soxs triple-A team at Pawtucket, R.I. DiSarcina spent the 2012 season as the teams minor league field coordinator after serving as a special assistant to former Angels GM Tony Reagins in 2011. A native of Bellerica, Mass., who now lives on Cape Cod, DiSarcina spent 2007-2010 in a variety of roles for the Red Sox, including television analyst, baseball operations consultant, infield coordinator and manager of the Class-A Lowell (Mass.) Spinners, a team he guided to a 125-99 record in three seasons. This is 50 miles from home, and I miss managing, DiSarcina, who has two teenage children, said in a text message. Jerry could have denied the Red Sox permission to speak to me, but he left the decision up to me. I am indebted to him for the classy way he handled it. Its a unique opportunity that I could not pass on. It was a very difficult decision, but family comes first. DiSarcina, known for his superb defense and clubhouse leadership, hit .258 with 28 home runs and 355 runs batted in during an 11-year big-league career (1990-2000) with the Angels. -Mike DiGiovanna
