Found October 13, 2012 on Burning River Baseball:
As always, Burning River Baseball is here with your Indians-centric view of the world. The Orioles (former Indians: Jim Thome), beat the Rangers (no former Indians) in the first Wild Card single game playoff, then went on to face the Yankees (former Indians: Derek Lowe, Jayson Nix and the fat man) in one of the closest matched ALDS I've ever seen. Each game was within a single run going into the 9th inning and two games went into extra innings. In the end the Yankees came away with the victory with C.C. Sabathia on the mound. In the other American League match-up, Oakland (former Indian: Coco Crisp) lost in five games to the Tigers (former Indian: Jhonny Peralta). This gives Indians fans another series to root against their Central Division rivals. In the National League, the Cardinals (former Indian: Ed Mujica) sneaked by the Braves (former Indian: Chad Durbin) on an botched infield fly call, then went on to win a five game series against the Strasburg-less Nationals (...

Where does C.C. Sabathia rank among Yankees pitchers?

Questions of legacy and rank are usually reserved for after that player has played for the team in question. But make no mistake about it; the amount that C.C. Sabathia has accomplished in his short time in pinstripes is worth taking a closer look at. After going the distance in last nights series clinching win over the Orioles (some columnist for this publication said they didn’t...

Is CC Sabathia the modern day Steve Carlton?

When Joe Girardi elected to stay with CC Sabathia on Friday evening at Yankee stadium in the Bronx, something happened that had not happened for the Yankees since Game 4 of the 2000 ALCS. A complete game by a starting pitcher. It was also the first complete game since 1962 when Ralph Terry pitched the Yankees to a 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants for their 20th World Series...

ALDS Game 5: Yankees 3, Orioles 1

It wasn't the shutout I said had to happen but it was a complete game win nonetheless. CC Sabathia finished off a great run for Yankee pitchers in the ALDS by allowing just one run on four hits, and walking two and striking out nine.On the other side of the ball, the three runs the Yankees scored felt like ten with the big fella on the mound. But it was the way they scored the...

Series Preview- ALCS: Yankees vs Tigers

Sabathia was dominate in the ALDS, he and the Yankees staff look to shut out the Tigers Fresh off of their ALDS win against the gritty Orioles, the Yankees advance to the ALCS to take on the team that knocked them out of the postseason last year, the Detroit Tigers. What we learned from the ALDS against Baltimore has been that the Yankees pitchers are in their groove and the hitters...

Orioles, Yankees scoreless early in ALDS Game 5

CC Sabathia and Jason Hammel each retired the first nine batters, and the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles were scoreless after three innings Friday in the deciding Game 5 of their AL division series. With Alex Rodriguez watching from a seat in the dugout, the Yankees did not come close to a hit against Hammel in a game that started about 15 hours after Baltimore's 2-1...

CC goes distance as Yankees advance

Yankees-Orioles. Playoffs. Disputed home run to right field. Yankees win. Sound familiar? CC Sabathia and his New York teammates saw Nate McLouth's long drive called foul by the slimmest of margins - hello, Jeffrey Maier - and then hung on to beat Baltimore 3-1 Friday in the deciding Game 5 of the AL division series. With Alex Rodriguez benched, the Yankees advanced to the...

Win or Go Home for the Orioles

This is It I have been an Orioles fan as long as I can remember. By now, you know that the Orioles had not made the playoffs in 15 years. This season has been special. From being able to cheer on the Orioles for my first time at Opening Day against the Twins, to staying up till the early hours of this morning, the Orioles have found countless ways to amaze me.The Orioles have...

Sluggers have short window in ALCS

NEW YORK In dueling Game 5s over a 24-hour span, Justin Verlander and CC Sabathia demonstrated what aces are supposed to do in October. Verlander stomped to the mound Thursday in Oakland, before a hostile and delirious crowd, and delivered the finest performance of his postseason career: nine innings, zero runs, 11 strikeouts. He rescued a beleaguered bullpen, threw his first playoff...

Yankees 3, Orioles 1

The Baltimore Orioles came up short against the Yankees in the postseason, too. The brash, young birds produced clutch hits all September while chasing New York. They fell one short in October. The Orioles return to the postseason for the first time in 15 years ended with a 3-1 loss to CC Sabathia in the deciding Game 5 of the AL division series Friday. After playing the rivals...

Eliminated

The season has come to an end for the Baltimore Orioles. What a ride it has been. I’m off the crazy train and trying to get readjusted to society and preparing for a long winter without baseball. I’m now back from a long, winding, and exhilarating trip to New York City to catch the Orioles. I decided at the last minute to trek up to the Big Apple (while very sick) after seeing...
