Found June 28, 2013 on Fox Sports Midwest:
As a dozen or so teams spend the next few weeks deciding whether to be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline, the verdicts in the N.L. Central already are in. The breakdown is as obvious as the 11-game difference between third and fourth place. The Cardinals, Pirates and Reds will be buying; the Brewers and the Cubs will be selling. Right-hander Jeff Samardzija could see another roster remake when the Cubs visited Busch Stadium last week and he wasn't thrilled about it. "If you unload three or four guys, you have to replace those guys and the hole gets deeper," he said. "If you keep guys, the turnover into next year doesn't look so big. The valley doesn't look so deep." When told that a strong showing in July could change the front office's thinking about unloading veterans for prospects, you could see the doubt in his smile. "You say that," he said. Samardzija lost four teammates at the deadline last year. He could lose more than...

Soler Broken and Other Cubs News

A few weeks back, Jorge Soler fouled a ball of his shin...a seemingly common occurrence in baseball that carries little consequence past the few moments of stinging pain for the offending party. This being the Cubs and all, the foul ball sent Soler to the 7-day disabled list of which he returned off of this week. The leg still hurt though and now it's being reported that he has...

Rangers rumors: Texas 'really wants' Cubs' Matt Garza

The Rangers are in need of pitching and appear to be going after the biggest available fish in the sea. They want to win and they want to win now. According to Sports anchor/reporter George Ofman, the Rangers "really want" Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza. If the Rangers did want to acquire Garza, they would have to part with one of their top prospects. The Cubs...

Someone actually wants Carlos Marmol?

A few days ago, the Cubs finally cried “uncle” and designated Carlos Marmol for assignment, effectively saying their farewells to one of the most dominant yet terrible relievers in Cubs history.  There was no way in hell the Cubs were getting anything of consequence back for Marmol in a trade, and now that Marmol resides in DFA limbo (he has to sit ten days before he can be...

Cubs get approval for some Wrigley renovations

The Chicago Cubs have been cleared to move forward with their $500 million renovation of Wrigley Field - except for the large video screen that the team's chairman says is an essential element. Chairman Tom Ricketts says the outfield Jumbotron and the advertising revenue it would generate are needed to fund the remodeling of the historic ballpark without a public subsidy. The...

Cubs prospect Jorge Soler fractures leg

Highly-regarded Chicago Cubs prospect Jorge Soler has suffered a stress fracture in his left tibia, an injury that will require him to wear a walking boot for four to six weeks, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. #Cubs prospect Jorge Soler has stress fracture in left shin. Cubs 7, Brewers 2

Matt Garza struck out 10 in seven solid innings and Dioner Navarro hit a three-run homer, sending the Chicago Cubs to a 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. Garza (3-1) had his third consecutive strong outing. The right-hander allowed one run on eight hits and a walk while throwing 101 pitches. Garza, who can become a free agent after the season, is expected to be...

Chicago Cubs throwbacks for game against Seattle Mariners

The Chicago Cubs are going to be wearing these throwback uniforms against the Seattle Mariners for their weekend series starting on June 29th.  The jerseys are an updated version of their 1909 uniforms and they look pretty good.  It’s always great when teams mix up their uniforms with some throwbacks. Cubs 5, Mariners 3(11)

Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Nate Schierholtz opened the 11th with a drag bunt off Oliver Perez (2-2). Soriano then connected on a 1-2 pitch over the center-field wall, his ninth. That ended a 14-game scoreless streak for Perez. The Mariners had tied the game with two outs...

Video: Mike Zunino hits first career walk-off hit to beat Chicago Cubs

It took 10 innings and a walk-off hit from catcher Mike Zunino for the Seattle Mariners to finally send those loveable losers, the Chicago Cubs, home for their Friday night.

D-backs won't rush to boost pitching

The Diamondbacks are the only NL West team that has not shown interest in Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco. Why? The D-Backs are not interested in "renting" a potential free agent -- and if they acquire a starting pitcher, they will want him to be a significant upgrade over their major-league-ready prospects, sources say. Two starters, in particular, interest the D...

Diamondbacks Rumors: Arizona interested in Yovani Gallardo, Jeff Samardzija

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the market for a starting pitcher. Believe it or not, Ricky Nolasco has not been mentioned as a possible target. The Diamondbacks are focusing on completely different pitchers right now. According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Diamondbacks are interested in Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo and Cubs starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija...

Are the D-Backs willing to move a top prospect?

I don’t think anybody is overreacting if they are a little worried about the state of Diamondbacks right now. The real question is, does the team feel the same way? If you’ve been following the national baseball writers closely at all, you’ll see that the Diamondbacks are brought up probably just as much as any other team as a strong possibility to make a trade before the deadline.
