Every year there are Major League Baseball teams that sign a bunch of veteran players to minor league deals and stick them away in Triple-A since there is no room on their current 24-man roster. This year, the Boston Red Sox signed former Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers utility player Brandon Snyder to a minor league deal on April 2 and since then, have gotten quality production for a player that spent most of the 2012 in the major leagues. Snyder has spent the entire season with Triple-A Pawtucket and is hitting .295 with eight homeruns and 31 RBIs in 46 games. He has played several different positions including first base, third base and some outfield for the Pawsox. Despite all the success he has had for Pawtucket, it has hard to see him being called up to Boston unless there is another injury to an infielder. The good thing is that the Red Sox had a similar situation in 2011, when current Pawsox player Drew Sutton was called up and provided some insurance for Boston in limit...
BEST OF MAXIM
The last time the Boston Red Sox had a pick in the Top 10 was 1993. First pick in that draft was shortstop Alex Rodriguez (you’ve heard of him) by the Seattle Mariners, the easy No.1, even coming out of high school (he turned down playing shortstop and quarterback for the University of Miami). Following Rodriguez came five straight pitchers: two of whom suffered career-shortening...
What better way to honor a fellow player on his birthday than to don wigs resembling his own hair style?
“Thank you, Taiwan, ” former MLB slugger Manny Ramirez said while celebrating with a group of fans and his teammates, reports Focus Taiwan News Channel.
The Rhinos are pulling out all the stops in a effort to retain Manny, who can decide on June 11th if he wants to stay...
The StealVery few Red Sox players can bridge the generations with their exploits—but Dave Roberts is one of them. He was at that magical moment in time when his singular achievement could make octogenarians and millennials weep together with joy. That stolen base is a touchstone that every Red Sox fan can own forever. The iconic images will never fade. The near pick-offs. The hand...
Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t fare so well in his first taste of the big leagues. However, with the young outfielder’s meteoric rise through the Red Sox’ system, it was only a matter of time before he ended back up with the big club, and it appears that time is Wednesday.
According to Comcast Sports Net’s Maureen Mullen, Bradley will be recalled from Pawtucket on Wednesday, and...
Franklin Morales returned to the mound just in time for the Red Sox.
With Clay Buchholz still sidelined with a collarbone issue, Boston needed a spot starter, and it just so happened that Morales was finishing up his rehab assignment and ready to return to the big club for his season debut. The result Thursday was a 9-2 victory over the Phillies, and a win for Morales in his first...
The Red Sox made a number of offseason transactions, but acquiring Graham Godfrey didn’t exactly grab headlines. The pitcher is reportedly on the move again.
According to Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal, the Red Sox have traded Godfrey to the Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.
Godfrey was acquired by the Sox from the Athletics back in December to complete an...
With the Yankees now nearing full strength and challenging the Red Sox for first place in the American League East, this weekend’s series in the Bronx has a lot more riding it than the first time these teams met on Opening Day.
But even though the rivalry seems to be heating back up, the Red Sox players are approaching Friday night’s tilt at Yankee Stadium as “just another...
John Lackey wasn’t at his best Wednesday night but he has pitched effectively for the Red Sox this season. Lackey, signed to a five-year, $82.5 million contract prior to the 2010 season, had a rocky start to his Boston tenure. After posting solid peripherals with poor run prevention marks in 2010, he posted a 6.41 ERA in 2011 before undergoing Tommy John surgery. He missed the...

Game 56: Yankees take it, 4-1
Well, it wasn't a game of many highlights, but singles and walks gave the Yankees a 4-1 victory. In a rematch from Opening Day, C.C. Sabathia beat Jon Lester by simply pitching better, and it was simple; Lester missed his spots and C.C. didn't. Sabathia went over seven innings and struck out ten. Hopefully...

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the designated-hitter rule. On April 6, 1973, Ron Blomberg of the New York Yankees became the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball history when he faced Boston Red Sox right-hander pitcher Luis Tiant. EL Tiante walked "Boomer" and the debate over the DH has...
