After the San Diego Padres traded for Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox this past weekend, they seem to be flush with outfielders. Are the Atlanta Braves a good match for one of their several corner outfielders?Maybe, maybe not. It's established that Cameron Maybin is going to be starting in center field for them in 2012, as he should. I think at this point in time, he's the best player on the team. That leaves the team with several possible trade candidates, including Quentin, Will Venable, Chris Denorfia, and Kyle Blanks. Let's take a look at them, one at a time.-Carlos Quentin. Quentin will be the most expensive one of the bunch by far, but also is the most established player. He'll be making at least $5.05 million in arbitration (probably in the $6-$7 million range), which could be a little bit out of Atlanta's price range. There were rumors circulating earlier this morning that the Padres were actually looking to sign Quentin to an extension, which wou...

The Carlos Quentin Trade: Why Chicago White Sox Fans Shouldn’t Panic Yet

Calm down, White Sox fans. I – like many others – was away for the New Year’s holiday, but that didn’t stop Kenny Williams from making a move. The White Sox GM shipped Carlos Quentin to the San Diego Padres for two minor league pitchers. Quentin, who is in his last year being under team control, would have been a free agent after the 2012 season. The off-season...

Chicago White Sox Trade Carlos Quentin to San Diego Padres

Sometimes when players are traded, they get all upset about where they end up and who they'll miss. In Carlos Quentin's case, he's pretty excited. The Chicago White Sox traded the All-Star outfielder to his hometown San Diego Padres this weekend, and when he got the call he was conveniently already in town. This is also good news for the Padres, who sucked it up in...

Breaking Down The Carlos Quentin Trade

First things first – the Padres won this deal and it’s not close. They acquired Carlos Quentin, a right-handed power hitter who can get on base at an above-average clip, and surrendered to unspectacular prospects to get him. Let’s assume Quentin hits .260/.340/.500 through the middle of July of next season, but San Diego is 12 games back in the division and is in...

Your Morning Dump...Where Quentin didn't fit the Red Sox mold

Every morning we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. According to a major league source, the Red Sox weren’t engaged in talks for outfielder Carlos Quentin, whom the White Sox traded to the Padres Saturday for pitching prospects Simon Castro...

Transaction Analysis: A Petco Precursor? by R.J. Anderson

Acquired OF-R Carlos Quentin from the White Sox for RHP Simon Castro and LHP Pedro Hernandez. [12/31] Back in December 2007, then-Arizona general manager Josh Byrnes traded Quentin to the White Sox for Chris Carter. Now serving as the Padres’ main man, Byrnes has attempted to quench his lineup’s thirst for power by acquiring Quentin in a surprising deal. There are...
