Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired a Philadelphia Phillies starter Friday.
But it wasn't Cliff Lee.
The Dodgers announced Friday afternoon that they obtained right-hander Joe Blanton from Philadelphia for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The Phillies put Blanton on trade waivers shortly after Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, and Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti put in a claim. Colletti and Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. then agreed on compensation, and Blanton's contract was assigned to the Dodgers.
This is the second deal of the week for the two teams. The Dodgers traded for outfielder Shane Victorino Tuesday, in exchange for right-handers Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin and a player to be named later or cash.
The Dodgers have needed a starting pitcher for weeks and were viewed as the front-runner to acquire Ryan Dempster from the Chicago Cubs. But when Dempster was dealt to Texas, the Dodgers were left without a starting pitcher in their four-man deadline haul (Victorino, Hanley Ramirez, Randy Choate and Brandon League). Colletti didn't wait long to change that.
Blanton went 8-9 with a 4.59 ERA this season in 21 games for the Phillies.

After taking the first two games of their series with the Chicago Cubsincluding Saturday's 3-2 winthe Dodgers will send their newest acquisition--31-year old Joe Blanton--to the mound Sunday afternoon, hoping he can do for them what he did when he was dealt from Oakland to Philadelphia: Help turn them into winners.
Because when Joe Blanton gets traded, his new team ends up with...
The Dodgers continued “raiding” the Phillies roster when they obtained Philadelphia starting pitcher Joe Blanton in exchange for the proverbial “player to be named later.” Getting Blanton marks the second time this week the Dodgers took part in what has become a somewhat surprising roster dump by the Phillies. The Dodgers obtained Philadelphia outfielder Shane Victorino...
Right-hander Joe Blanton was claimed off waivers and traded to the Dodgers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Right-hander B.J. Rosenberg was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, to fill the 25 man roster.
If this is what it the rebuilding stage feel ilk..the next 3 years are going to suck!
Since 2008, Blanton has the fourth-best winning percentage...
The Dodgers acquired pitcher Joe Blanton from the Phillies for a player to be named later or cash considerations after Los Angeles claimed Blanton off waivers. Blanton, 8-9 with a 4.59 ERA in 21 games this season, is in the final year of his contract. He leads the National League with 22 home runs allowed and a 6.4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Blanton was traded from the Oakland...
Right-hander Joe Blanton has been traded to the Dodgers after Los Angeles claimed him on waivers.
Blanton will join outfielder Shane Victorino, who was sent from the Phillies to Los Angeles on Tuesday. Philadelphia also dealt outfielder Hunter Pence to San Francisco earlier this week.
The 31-year-old Blanton is 8-9 with a 4.59 ERA in 20 starts and one relief appearance. He is making...

Phillies starting pitcher Joe Blantonwas traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers today after being claimed off of waivers.
Just because the non-waiver trade deadline has passed doesn’t mean the Phillies are done dealing. The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed right hander Joe Blanton off of waivers today and the Phillies and Dodgers worked out a deal that will send cash considerations or a...
Not exactly the Phillies' pitcher I wanted the Dodgers to acquire, but the they finally grabbed a starting pitcher in Joe Blanton.
The Phillies will receive cash and/or a player to be named later. The Dodgers are also responsible for the $2.9 million left on Blanton's contract.
As long as the possible player going to Philadelphia is of no significance, this deal is...
Well, that was quick. After not being able to work out a deal with the Orioles for Joe Blanton, the Phillies dealt the starter to the Dodgers in exchange for a player to be named later or cold hard cash. Ahhhh, the typical waiver claim deal.
Blanton will be a free agent after the season, and while a trade for him isn't nearly as monumental as the rumblings surrounding...
The Dodgers have acquired starter Joe Blanton from the Phillies in return for a player to be named later.
LOS ANGELES -- Just when it looked like the Dodgers' Ned Colletti and the Phillies' Ruben Amaro were on the fast track to becoming BBF's (Baseball Best Friends), Amaro must have had second thoughts.
Tuesday night the Dodgers received Shane Victorino from the Phils for pitchers Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin and early Friday afternoon Colletti and Amaro agreed on their...
So the Phillies sent Joe Blanton packing yesterday. When the Dodgers claimed him off waivers, the Phillies traded him for cash considerations, or a player to be named later. They then went out and lost 4-2, along the way letting Kyle Kendrick get a start, and re-calling B.J. Rosenberg. With Blanton gone, it's also worth noting that the same Dodgers claimed Cliff Lee yesterday...
