SAN FRANCISCO -- Carl Crawford was reinstated from the disabled list Friday for the start of the Dodgers three-game series against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.
Crawford was sidelined for more than a month with a strained left hamstring. He completed a four-game rehabilitation assignment with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday and took early batting practice in San Francisco on Friday.
To clear a roster spot for Crawford, the Dodgers optioned outfielder Scott Van Slyke to triple-A Albuquerque.
Before his injury, Crawford batted .301 with five home runs, 13 runs batted in and nine steals in 51 games.
Crawfords return gives the Dodgers four high-caliber outfielders: Crawford, Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier.
Manager Don Mattingly has said Puig will play every day, provided he is healthy and doesnt fall into a slump. That leaves Crawford, Kemp and Ethier sharing playing time in two positions.
Kemp acknowledged that he didnt like the idea of not playing every day.
"I want to play every day," Kemp said. "Thats what Im used to doing. You cant get in a rhythm sitting down. I understand the situation, but I would love to keep on playing, like I have been in the past."

Yesterday Carlos Marmol was placed on outright waivers. The move was purely procedural as the Dodgers were already planning on sending Marmol to the minors in hopes of him being able to work out his struggles there. Marmol has cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Triple-A. The Dodgers were already willing to cut their losses with Marmol before the trade went down. Peter...

He finished the at-bat, and the inning, but was then...
Yasiel Puig’s hustle plays keep paying off, even though he may not be the best defensive player in the MLB (by a long shot). Check out the great catch Puig made off of a Nolan Arenado line drive which caused Puig to slam directly into the outfield wall, somehow holding on to the ball. Slow down big fella.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a trade on Saturday night with the Miami Marlins that will net them starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco. The trade had been rumored for the last week with a couple other teams involved but the Dodgers were always seen as the favorite since Nolasco grew up in Southern California.
Nolasco is a career 81-72 with a 4.44 ERA including a 5-8, 3.85 ERA...
Last week, Bruce Bochy was quoting in saying that he didn't believe emerging Los Angeles Dodgers rookie superstar Yasiel Puig deserved a place on the National League All-Star team. This was potentially detrimental to Puig's All-Star hopes considering the fact that Bochy will manage the National League squad later this month in the All-Star Game."Generally, guys that...

Remember when the Dodgers acquired Manny Ramirez in 2008?
The man who’s considered by some to be the best right-handed hitter to ever play the game, who propelled the Dodgers to the 2008 NL West Championship and helped take the team to back-to-back NLCSes in 2008 and 2009, the man who found himself caught up in steroid and performance enhancing drug controversies throughout his...
Starting pitcher, Madison Bumgarner (9-5, 3.05 ERA) has proven to be the best and most consistent pitcher so far this season for the San Francisco Giants (40-46). Today’s game against division rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers (41-44), proved it once again, even with a few hiccups along the way.
A new system for the Giants’ reeked havoc on the first inning of the game as all the...
Just when the Los Angeles Dodgers thought they were going to get a weekend in San Francisco without seeing Matt Cain, the weather intervened.
Instead, he'll start Friday's series opener for the Giants against the visiting Dodgers, whom Cain has dominated in recent years. But Cain also hasn't seen a lineup as potent as the one Los Angeles has fielded of late - one that...
