Found August 18, 2013 on We Talk Fantasy Sports:
On June 21st the Los Angeles Dodgers owned a 30-42 record.  They had just lost their second straight game to the San Diego Padres and were 7-12 on the month.   What they have done since has happened just twice in the last 100 years.  LA split the 4 game series with the Padres, starting a 10-2 stretch over 12 games with a series sweep of the San Francisco Giants, taking 3 of 4 from the Philadelphia Phillies and then 2 of 3 from the Colorado Rockies.WWWWWWWWWWLL Don Mattingly's team would finish the first half with an 7-3 stretch taking 2 of 3 from the Giants, sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks and splitting a 4 game set with the Rockies.  The Dodgers owned a 47-47 record by the All-Star Break.WWWWWWWLLLLos Angeles picked up right where they left off to start the second half of the season, with back to back 3 game sweeps on the road against the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays.  They would take 3 of 4 from the Cincinnati Reds and split a 2 game series with the New York Yankees.  That was another 10-2 stretch of games to finish July.WWWWWWWWWWLLContinuing to do the unthinkable, LA won 7 of their 8 road games to start the month of August, sweeping the Chicago Cubs and taking 3 of 4 from the St. Louis Cardinals.  Next were series sweeps of the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Mets before taking the first 2 of 3 from the Phillies.  Since their loss on August 6th to the Cardinals, the Dodgers have won 10 straight and are 15-1 in August!WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLWe have yet to mention that the Dodgers are doing all of this without Matt Kemp right?  The Dodgers have been led offensively by Carl Crawford, Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez.  Hanley Ramirez has played well but has played in just 19 of LA's 28 games since the All-Star Break.  Gonzalez leads the team in Runs Scored (20), as well as Runs Batted In (17) since the break.  Puig has hit a team high 8 doubles while drawing 16 walks and scoring 19 runs!  Crawford is hitting a cool .321 with 7 doubles since the break and scored 13 runs. Hanley is hitting .325 when he plays and has 14 RBI and 14 runs scored thanks to 7 doubles and 4 home runs.As a team, only the Detroit Tigers have scored more runs since the All-Star Break.Clayton Kershaw led the Los Angeles Dodgers to their 10th straight win last night, and improved to 12-7 on the season.  Kershaw tossed 8 shutout innings while striking out 8 Phillies in the process.  Kershaw is 4-1 since the All-Star Break with 1.20 ERA and opponents are hitting just .160 off the southpaw.  Over these 45 innings of work, Kershaw has allowed just 25 hits and 6 earned runs while striking out 43 batters and walking just 5.  According to WAR, Hiroki Kuroda has been a more valuable pitcher in the second half, but I disagree.Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu have been doing their part as well  combining to go 8-1 over 11 starts.  Greinke owns a 2.03 ERA since the break and is 3-1 while Ryu is 5-0 with a 2.27 ERA.  Oh, and Ricky Nolasco is 3-0 with an ERA under 3 as well over 5 starts.Kenley Jansen is 10 for 10 in save opportunities with 23 strikeouts over 15.1 innings.  He has allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks over that span.  The rest of the Dodgers bullpen has pitched 72 innings, striking out 60 batters, allowing just 52 hits and 14 runs to score.  Two important guys in the 'Pen that you have probably never heard of are Paco Rodriguez and Chris Withrow.  Paco was born in 1991 but you wouldn't know it looking at his 6'3 215lbs frame!  Withrow is even bigger at 6'4 220lbs!  On the season, these two have combined to pitched 65 innings and have 74 strikeouts!Los Angeles will look to improve on this 42-8 RIDICULOUS stretch of baseball, and will most likely succeed, in sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon who have lost 21 of their last 25 games.  Their fall from greatness is a blog post for another day!

What should we expect from Brian Wilson?

Reliever Brian Wilson is already with the Dodgers in Philadelphia, and it’s widely expected that he’ll be activated as soon as today, so it’s worth taking a look at what fans should realistically expect from him going forward. In four rehab appearances between A+ and AAA, Wilson has pitched four and a third innings, struck out three, walked none, and gave up one hit. All in...

Injury Roll Call: Kemp slowly improving, A.J. should be fine, Tolleson/Dominguez on the mend

Hanley Ramirez returned on Wednesday from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the lineup for over a week. Ramirez jammed his shoulder against the Cubs on Aug. 4, and has been limited to one pinch hitting opportunity in the past nine games. He struck out. Nick Punto (six starts) and Dee Gordon (three games) did admirable work filling in for Ramirez, especially at the plate. That...

McDonnell Podcast: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen

Dodger closer Kenley Jansen began his baseball career as a catcher who threw so hard that he was converted to a pitcher. In 2011, he dominated major league batters to the tune of sixteen strikeouts for every nine hitters he faced. And much like all-time great closer Mariano Rivera, he is a master of the cutter. And only the cutter. Also like Rivera, he can't explain why he...

Dodgers Matt kemp, Yasiel Puig & Carl Crawford party at Club Liv with LeBron James

The Los Angeles Dodgers are baseball darlings. The Big Blue had won 10 games in a row before losing to the Phillies on Sunday. No big deal though, because following the lost, the team headed off to Miami to face off against the Marlins this afternoon. However, Sunday night’s in Miami means one thing, “Club Liv.” Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford hit up LIV Nightclub...

Dodgers cruise to 10th straight win

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly summed it up nicely after Clayton Kershaw became the latest Los Angeles starter to shut down the sinking Phillies. "Kershaw's pretty good," Mattingly said. The young ace pitched eight dominant innings and the seemingly unstoppable Dodgers won their 10th straight Saturday night, beating Philadelphia 5-0 to keep the Phillies scoreless in...

Did Puig drop an F-bomb on media?

Yasiel Puig. No stranger to good headlines or bad . And Monday, all the attention may have gotten to him. During a conversation with journalists before the Dodgers' game against the Marlins in Miami, Puig allegedly made a profane jab aimed at reporters. The problem? No one in the room could tell if he was joking, or if the Dodgers slugger really does have serious beef against...

Dodgers-Marlins Preview

The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn't extend their impressive win streak last time out. Manager Don Mattingly's club could have a hard time bouncing back against 21-year-old phenom Jose Fernandez, who has been nearly untouchable over the last month. In a matchup of star rookies, Hyun-Jin Ryu takes the mound opposite Fernandez as the visiting Dodgers open a four-game set against...

LA teams nearly pulled off deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently tried to acquire a second baseman, but it wasn't the New York Yankees' Robinson Cano. No, the Dodgers' target was the Los Angeles Angels' Howie Kendrick, and the two sides held extensive trade discussions before the July 31 non-waiver deadline, according to major league sources. The Angels proposed a deal that included one of the...

Phillies capitalize on Hanley errors, beat Dodgers 3-2

The Phillies won for the first time under interim manager Ryne Sandberg on Sunday afternoon when they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies won it when Dodgers’ shortstop Hanley Ramirez made an error on Michael Young’s bases-loaded ground ball with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Ramirez was going to try for a double play. Young who pinch-hit...

Hanley hands Phillies a win on walk-off error

Among the Phillies many problems in 2013 are errors, especially on the infield. But it was the Dodgers' shortstop that gave away the game on Sunday. Hanley Ramirez was responsible for the two runs that counted in Friday's shutout win for LA. In the ninth inning on Sunday, an error...

On July 30, the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a minor-league deal with former San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson that was worth $1 million. Wilson pitched in four minor-league games with the Dodgers and didn't give up a run in 4.1 innings pitched. Today, the Dodgers are going to call up Brian Wilson, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Wilson was throwing his...
