Dodgers Roster: Michael Grove Placed On Injured List, Jake Reed Called Up

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Michael Grove on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain and selected the contract of Jake Reed from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Friday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.

Grove was removed in the fourth inning of his start at Wrigley Field because of the groin injury. He slipped while warming up in the bullpen but initially was able to push through the discomfort.

In four starts this season, Grove is 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA and 1.75 WHIP. His ERA is inflated due to allowing nine runs in a rough outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 9.

Grove otherwise has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his three other starts this year.

Reed is up with the Dodgers for the first time this season. He recently spent time on the temporarily inactive list, but was reinstated by Oklahoma City on April 15.

Reed allowed four runs in his 2023 debut, but then just one on April 2 and turned in a scoreless inning in his most recent appearance five days ago.

Reed had one save to go along with a 1.93 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in five games for the Dodgers last season. His first career save memorably came against the New York Mets, who Reed briefly pitched for last year and in 2021 as well.

Ryan Pepiot was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for Reed on the Dodgers 40-man roster.

Dodgers starting pitching options

Although Grove is on the IL, the Dodgers may not need a fifth starter their next turn through the rotation because of an off day.

However, should they decide to slot someone in, Tony Gonsolin just began a rehab assignment and could join the team, or the Dodgers may look to organizational depth pieces such as Matt Andriese, Dylan Covey and Robbie Erlin, or prospect Gavin Stone.
