Dodgers second baseman keeps getting on base even though he is not allowed to swing the bat

There have been a lot of intriguing storylines to watch across Major League Baseball this spring training, but one of the funniest has been the adventures of Dodgers second baseman Miguel Vargas, who keeps getting on base despite not swinging the bat a single time.

Vargas, who is one of the Dodgers' top prospects, has been instructed to not swing the bat in any of his plate appearances for the time being because he is still recovering from a hairline fracture in his pinky that has not fully healed.

He has, however, been cleared to play in the field and the Dodgers want him to get experience and playing time in the middle infield alongside shortstop Miguel Rojas, who is taking over for the injured Gavin Lux.

Through Friday, Vargas had eight plate appearances and somehow managed to draw four walks despite having no intention of ever swinging the bat. It has been wild to watch unfold.

Vargas is expected to be fully cleared to start swinging on Saturday.

The harsh reality is that when he does start swinging his on-base percentage is almost certain to get worse than he when he was not allowed to swing the bat.
