The Colorado Rockies were in a mood to shave some payroll Saturday, so they decided to ship catcher Ramon Hernandez to the Los Angeles Dodgers for starting pitcher Aaron Harang who has no spot in their rotation. Colorado has already designated Harang for assignment.
The designation gives the Rockies a limited amount of time to either trade Harang or risk losing him through the waiver process. They should have no problem finding a suitor for the right-hander however as he put up a respectable 10-10 campaign in 2012 to go along with a solid 3.61 earned run average.
Hernandez, who himself was designated for assignment after spring training, received kind words Saturday from Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti. “Ramon gives us invaluable veteran experience and additional leadership at the catching position. He’s worked with great pitching staffs in the past, and we feel he will provide solid contributions to our pitchers and be a great resource for A.J.”
