FF Locker Room:
The Colorado Rockies were in a mood to shave some payroll Saturday, so they decided to ship catcher Ramon Hernandez to the Los Angeles Dodgers for starting pitcher Aaron Harang who has no spot in their rotation. Colorado has already designated Harang for assignment.
The designation gives the Rockies a limited amount of time to either trade Harang or risk losing him through the waiver process. They should have no problem finding a suitor for the right-hander however as he put up a respectable 10-10 campaign in 2012 to go along with a solid 3.61 earned run average.
Hernandez, who himself was designated for assignment after spring training, received kind words Saturday from Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti. “Ramon gives us invaluable veteran experience and additional leadership at the catching position. He’s worked with great pitching staffs in the past, and we feel he will provide solid contributions to our pitchers and be a great resource for A.J.”
Both teams are expected to be c...
BEST OF MAXIM
Jeff Francis sliced and diced his way through the Padres.Don't tell Jeff Francis that pitching at Coors Field is impossible. The crafty lefty showed during Friday's home opener at Coors Field that his dominant spring training was no fluke. He used his 85 MPH fastball and his slow, big-breaking off-speed pitches, to lull the San Diego Padres to sleep. In all, Francis pitched...
After starting 0 for eleventy billion, Matt Kemp sheds the title of the worst baseball player ever with a double.
DENVER (AP) -- Wilin Rosario and Dexter Fowler homered, helping Jeff Francis and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 Friday in a festive home opener at Coors Field.
Francis (1-0) was ahead of batters all afternoon as he scattered five hits over six sharp innings. The soft-throwing lefty nearly became the first Rockies starter to eclipse the 100-pitch mark in 106 games...
A year ago, Nolan Arenado was entering the 2012 season with loads of hype. Minor League production expectations were enormous, and most folks around baseball were already penciling the young 3B into the Rockies' mid-season lineup. But a slow start at Double-A and a concerning lack of over-the-wall power quickly put an end to those 2012 Arenado arrival fantasies. The 21-year...

Today marked the 2013 debuts of some notable pitchers, including Chris Withrow, Chris Reed, Garrett Gould and Jharel Cotton. Oh, and some guy called Puig homered.
Hyun-Jin Ryu earned his first major league victory, shrugging off a two-run homer in the first inning by Andrew McCutchen and pitching the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 Sunday for a three-game sweep.
Adrian Gonzalez drove in four runs with three hits and Justin Sellers homered for the Dodgers.

Pirates (1-4) at Dodgers (3-2)
4:10 PM–Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
The Pirates look to avoid a series sweep (or at least avoid a series shutout) today against the Dodgers. They’ve dropped eight straight at Dodger Stadium and have obviously been completely dreadful at the plate so far this year. It’s gotta change some time soon..
This is starting to just feel awkward. Almost like when you get two groups of your friends together that don’t really share the same interests and you try to do something together. I feel like I should be entertaining you or something but it just seems so hard when the Pirates are this pathetic. I…
