Pro Sports Daily:
After the requisite leaping chest bumps by the starting pitchers near the mound Chris Archer and David Price wrapped their arms around each other.
“I’m just following your lead” Archer said.
And Price said … nothing.
“He was just like (silent) with a big smile on his face” Archer said.
There were plenty of smiles and hugs and hearty handshakes Saturday after Archer pitched the first-place Rays past the Yankees 1-0 with his second complete-game shutout in three starts.
Archer grew up visualizing himself pitching against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium but he said he never saw himself beating them 1-0 on a two-hitter until the eighth inning Saturday. Actually no one has seen a Rays pitcher throw a complete-game shutout against the Yankees anywhere not in the Bronx and not in St. Petersburg.
Archer was the first.
“Stupendously amazing that’s how it feels” Archer said.
The Rays winners of nine of their past 10 games have tossed six complete games this month with three comi...

The Rays have been very active on Twitter today.
First, Tampa Bay’s official Twitter account tweeted out an ad for a “steel alloy phone with Kevlar cord,” that would need to be installed by Sept. 10. It was a playful shot towards the Red Sox and David Ortiz after Big Papi smashed a telephone with his bat on Saturday.
Now, Rays ace David Price is having some fun on Twitter at...
The Tampa Bay Rays have claimed first place in the division after they defeated the New York Yankees Friday night and the Boston Red Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles. Manager Joe Maddon said the following after acknowledging they were in first place, via the Tampa Bay Times. It’s always good to validate what you had been doing. You get to that particular point, and you’re there...

The Rays have been on a freakin' tear, and so has David Price. The Rays are 8-2 in their last 10, and 19-4 in the month of July. Holy ****! David Price is 4-1 with 3 complete...
The Rays may not wait for RHP Alex Cobb to come back to bump RHP Roberto Hernandez from the rotation.
Manager Joe Maddon confirmed Sunday what has seemed obvious that the Rays are "considering" going to a four-man rotation.
The primary reason is that even with a makeup game tonight in Boston they have four days off in an upcoming 12-day stretch.
The secondary reason...
The Tampa Bay Rays baseball's hottest team don't expect to make any major moves before Wednesday's trade deadline.
"We are always looking to improve and between now and Wednesday we're going to do everything we can to do that" executive vice president Andrew Friedman told TampaBay.com. "But I can't overstate our confidence in the team that we have...
BOSTON — Is it fair to call James Loney‘s 2013 campaign a breakout season?
Usually that’s the kind of terminology that’s reserved for a young player still in his first few seasons, but for Loney, it’s happening at age 29. During his first two partial seasons in Major League Baseball with the Dodgers, Loney had a .915 OPS in nearly 450 at-bats. After that, however, he struggled...
Hideki Matsui has re-signed with the New York Yankees and retired with his first major league team.
The 2009 World Series MVP signed a minor league contract Sunday in front of dozens of Japanese and American media and New York general manager Brian Cashman and assistant GM Jean Afterman.
The 39-year-old Matsui then put his signature to his official Major League Baseball retirement...
David Price allowed just two hits over 7 1-3 innings to beat the Boston Red Sox for the second time in six days, and Tampa Bay won 2-1 on Monday night to retake first place in the AL East.
Price (6-5) was dominating the makeup game before it was delayed for 39 minutes because of a brief downpour that arrived as fans were singing ''Sweet Caroline'' and he was warming...
David Ortiz went full-on Big Papi on a dugout telephone on Saturday after he struck out. The Tampa Bay Rays Twitter account then trolled Ortiz in epic fashion.
Hideki Matsui did great things for the New York Yankees, so it’s only right that he retired as one. In 11 seasons with the Bronx Bombers, Matsui had a line of .282/.360/.462 with 175 home runs.

The Rays series comes to a close Sunday with Phil Hughes (4-9, 4.33 ERA) taking on Matt Moore (14-3, 3.17 ERA). Hughes was pulled after just 80 pitches on July 23 versus the Rangers, he allowed three runs (all unearned) over 5 2/3 innings in a no decision. He has been quite inconsistent this season but pitched well against the Rays on April 23.
Moore picked up his 14th win of the...
