During the regular season, leading up to the 2013 Amateur Draft, we will provide a nightly recap of the day’s action, covering potential draft picks for the Pittsburgh Pirates as well as following the progress of interesting unsigned picks from previous years. The Pirates have the ninth and 14th picks in the first round this year, so the focus for now will be played ranked in that range.  Our draft preview page, with links for nine players currently that we are tracking, can be found here.  Kris Bryant went 1-for-3, with a double, walk and run scored in his team’s 4-2 loss. The San Diego third baseman, went 0-for-3 in the season opener Friday night, while also drawing a walk. He has made an error in both games. Orlando Mercado had a big day after starting off 0-for-5 in the first two games. He went 2-for-3, with a walk, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. North Carolina was rained out against Seton Hall today. Third baseman Colin Moran went 0-for-3 in the opener Friday night. Austin Wilson from Stanford sat out today with a mild strain below his elbow. According to Kendall Rogers on Twitter, he should be fine to play soon. He was pulled early from yesterday’s game. Brandon Thomas, the unsigned fourth round pick in 2012 out of Georgia Tech, has started off 0-for-4 in his first two games, with four walks and two runs scored. Jackson McClelland, who also went unsigned by the Pirates in the 2012 draft, made his first start for Pepperdine today. He went five innings, allowing six hits, two walks, one run and he struck out two batters. McClelland came back out for the sixth, but left after taking a comebacker off the leg. He said he was fine after the game, just sore. He picked up the win in their 7-1 victory over Western Michigan. Dace Kime pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief on Friday. He was drafted in 2010 and decided to go to Louisville after reaching a verbal agreement with the Pirates. He gave up two hits, two walks and he hit three batters, while recording two strikeouts. He was ranked 100th overall by Baseball America among draft-eligible college players. Jason Hursh, the sixth round pick from 2010, got the start for Oklahoma State Friday night. He went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with three walks and five strikeouts. According to Kendall Rogers, his fastball was up to 96 MPH with good command.
