The first full week of the college season has come to a close and it was a relatively quiet week for the top players. The Pirates select 9th and 14th overall in the upcoming June amateur draft. We posted a preview of the draft prior to the start of the season, with a group of players that are rated in that same range. While stats and boxscores for some of the High School players on that list are hard(impossible) to find, the recap of the rest of the players can be found below, along with links to each day’s recap. North Carolina was one of the few teams in college that played a game on Monday.Third baseman Colin Moran went 1-for-3 yesterday, with two runs, two RBI’s and a walk. During his first three games, Moran went 3-for-11, with two walks, five runs scored and four RBI’s. Stanford had their home opener rained out today. The game is rescheduled for tomorrow. There was no word on whether outfielder Austin Wilson will be back from the muscle strain near his elbow that sidelined him from the last two games. He left Friday night’s game early. The injury is said to be a nagging problem he has had, but a minor one and he should be back soon. Kris Bryant, the third baseman from San Diego, went 2-for-9 the first weekend, with a double and four walks during his three games. Jonathon Crawford, a right-handed starter from the Univ of Florida, went 3.2 innings in his first game. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, while recording four strikeouts. Bobby Wahl was ranked just under the other college guys above, but the right-hander out of Ole Miss had a very impressive debut. He hit 95 MPH during his 6.1 scoreless innings against TCU on Friday night. Phillip Ervin, an outfielder out of Samford, also ranks just below the above group. He is still one of the top college players in the country though, and he had a strong first weekend. Ervin went 7-for-15 over four games, with three home runs and five RBI’s. He also had a double and drew three walks. Rounding out the top ten college prospects, D.J. Peterson of New Mexico also had a big first week. He has played first and third base during his first two seasons, but so far he has only played third base this year. He went 5-for-11, with a double, triple, home run and six RBI’s The only prep player on our list with stats available was Oscar Mercado. Over his first three games, he went 2-for-8, with a double and two walks. He was hitless in his first two games. Daily Recaps Friday  Includes a start by top rated pitcher Mark Appel, going up against Austin Kubitza, the unsigned seventh round pick of the Pirates in the 2010 draft. Saturday  Includes starts by three former Pirates draft picks that went unsigned. Sunday  Big day for the top two third baseman and a Pirates pick from 2010 drives in nine runs in a game.
