In the first Angels game post-Mickey Hatcher, the Angels offense had a good night against a pretty good pitcher in Gavin Floyd. The Angels cranked out 12 hits and seven runs in their 7-2 win over the White Sox. Albert Pujols had a three run homer to push his slugging percentage over .300. Mark Trumbo started in right field with Torii Huner out, and went 3/4. Even the awful Vernon Wells got into the act, homering and drawing a walk. At the top of the lineup, Mike Trout reached base three times as he contineud to be a catalyst for the Angels, while Alberto Callaspo also had a three hit game. With Jerome Williams providing the team with an excellent start on the hill, it was a fantastic overall day for Angels fans, and we could look back at yesterday as the turning point for their season.

Game of the Night: Orioles 4, Royals 3 (15 innings). The Royals seemed to be in control of this game, holding leads of 2-0, and later, 3-1. They led 3-1 going into the ninth with Jonathan Broxton on the hill, who allowed a solo homer to Wilson Betemit to make it a one-run game, and then JJ Hardy singled in Ryan Flaherty to tie the game at three. The game went on a scoreless streak for the first four extra innings, before Adam Jones homered in the 15th to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead. Closer Jim Johnson sealed the game shut, and that was it for the Royals. It wasn't the prettiest game, but Baltimore's bullpen allowed just one run over eight innings in relief of starter Tommy Hunter, while giving up five hits, two walks, and striking out six.

Pitching Line of the Night: In the aforementioned Orioles-Royals game, Kansas City starter Felipe Paulino had a great outing, going seven scoreless wihle allowing five hits, two walks, and striking out nine. Of course, he got a no decision. Yu Darvish had yet another great start for the Rangers, allowing one run over 7 2/3 innings, also giving up four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Astros starter Bud Norris also pitched very well, as he allowed just one run over seven on four hits and two walks, while logging nine strikeouts.

Hitting Line of the Night: Adam LaRoche of the Nationals continued his comeback year, going 3/4 with four RBI and a homer. Reds third baseman Todd Frazier went 2/4 with three RBI and two homers. Carlos Lee of the Astros went 3/4 with two runs, three RBI, and a homer. JP Arencibia of the Blue Jays also did very well, going 3/4 with two runs, two RBI, and a homer.

Spotlight Series: Tomorrow, tomorrow....

Other Games: The Rays edged the Red Sox 2-1, but the real story was Will Rhymes. Chase Headley led the Padres to a 4-2 win over the Dodgers, just their second in eight attempts this year. The Indians jumped all over Felix Hernandez, and beat the Mariners 9-3. The Nationals beat the Pirates 7-4 behind a three homer barrage. The Twins offense went ape, and beat the Tigers 11-7, but Detroit's four errors didn't help matters. The red hot Marlins smoked the Braves 8-4. Hiroki Kuroda got shelled, as the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 8-1. The Reds used five late runs to beat the Mets 6-3. Yu Darvish was awesome in Texas's 4-1 win over Oakland. The Phillies beat the Cubs 9-2, in part to a late grand slam from Hector Luna (of all people). The Astros offense went ape on the struggling Brewers and won 8-3. The Rockies beat the Diamondbacks 6-1, and is just a game behind Arizona in the division. The Cardinals beat the Giants 4-1 to knock San Francisco under .500.

Today's Games: Mat Latos starts for the Reds in New York. Doug Fister goes for the Tigers against the Twins. Brandon McCarthy starts for the A's in Texas. Adam Wainwright takes on Matt Cain in San Francisco. James McDonald vs Luke Hochevar is a criminally underrated matchup. Brandon Beachy starts for the Braves against the Marlins. Chris Sale, who has been relentlessly jerked around this year, takes on CJ Wilson in Los Angeles. Roy Halladay will start for the Phillies in Chicago. Felix Doubront takes on Matt Moore in a battle of young AL East arms.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
