Aroldis Chapman has been the best reliever in baseball this year. But that moniker took a solid bump after his outing last night. Chapman blew the save and took the loss when he allowed three runs to the Astros in the ninth inning in the Reds' 5-3 loss to the NL Central's worst team. The blown save was Chapman's first since June 24th, and it was the first time he's allowed multiple runs in a game since the same game. Chapman still leads all reliever in fWAR (by nearly a full win over Craig Kimbrel), so it's not like his season is completely over. But I think this will nip the Cy Young talks in the bud a little bit. Game of the Night: Brewers 5, Cardinals 4 (13 innings). This game went 4:30...and also kicked off with a 2:32 rain delay, meaning that the game ended SEVEN HOURS after it was scheduled to start, or around 3 AM eastern. Anyway, The Cardinals led 2-0 after the first inning, but the Brewers fought back and ended up taking a 4-2 lead in the eig...

Stubbs trying to figure out the hitting game

CINCINNATI Drew Stubbs and his .220 batting average sat in the dugout during a game for the third game Friday night, but that doesn't mean he is doing nothing but ravaging pumpkin seeds. His real work is before games, private lessons and sessions with hitting coach Brook Jacoby and manager Dusty Baker. "As much as you hate to do it, like a parent, sometimes you have to...

Cingrani on fast track to success

No Billy Hamilton? No problem. Although many Reds faithful were clamoring for the speedster to be called up this month, there's another prospect who may be capable of making a greater impact down the stretch. He goes by the name of Tony Cingrani and the left-hander was recently dubbed as one of the key September call-ups for any team by ESPN's Keith Law. Here'...

Rolen has sore back, out a few more days

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Reds third baseman Scott Rolen has a sore lower back that will sideline him for at least a few days. Manager Dusty Baker said Rolen had an MRI exam that found a couple of inflamed areas in the back. He was put on medication. The Reds are hoping the problem subsides by the end of the weekend. Rolen last played on Tuesday. He's batting .244 with six homers...

Video: Dusty discusses Saturday's victory

Your browser does not support iframes.     Reds skipper Dusty Baker talks about the team's 5-1 victory over the Astros on Saturday. His club now has a 9.5 game division lead, which is the largest cushion for any first place team in baseball at the moment. Cincinnati's magic number currently sits at 14.

Bruce going for five

Jay Bruce could be in good shape to match the Cincinnati Reds' club record for consecutive games with a homer based on his history against Lucas Harrell. Bruce has gone deep in four straight games and has fared well in his career against the Houston Astros starter, who will take the ball for Friday night's matchup. The Reds' franchise record for homers in consecutive...

MINOR details: 2012 recap edition - Rookie Billings Mustangs

Astros beat Reds, post rare road series win

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds played their last game against the Houston Astros as NL opponents but they will not forget Matt Dominguez anytime soon. Dominguez hit a three-run homer, Tyler Greene added a solo shot and the Astros slowed Cincinnati's run to the NL Central title with a 5-1 win over the Reds on Sunday. The 23-year old former first-round pick of the Marlins...

Pirates-Reds Preview

The third-place Pittsburgh Pirates aren't likely to catch the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds, and could soon find themselves out of playoff contention entirely. Facing Mat Latos isn't likely to help their cause. Losers in seven of their last nine, the Pirates could be hard-pressed to snap their longest road losing streak in two years in Monday night's series opener...

Reds need to forget postseason and refocus

By HAL McCOY FOXSportsOhio.com CINCINNATI -- What Dusty Baker feared most materialized this weekend -- premature talk of postseason play might distract the job at hand, no matter how menial it seemed. And it couldn't have seemed more menial with the Houston Astros coming to town, towing 95 losses with them. They hadn't won a series on the road in 2 years -- not since early...

Your Saturday Baseball Open Thread

Summer’s gone. School is back in session. There’s a chill in the air and many have turned their attention to the gridiron of NCAA or the NFL. But not here. There’s a lot to still be spoken for around the game of baseball. Don’t tell anyone, but we’re pulling for the Pirates to get their **** together. Last night we found out that Aroldis Chapman is human after all, and...
