The Baltimore Orioles are currently 1/3 of the way through a killer 15 game stretch that sees them playing nothing but contenders. I remarked at the beginning of the month, to no one in particular, that the Orioles would be lucky if they went 5-10 during this run...this would put them precipitously close to the .500 mark, and a downslide would inevitably take place. Well, after five games of the stretch that has featured road trips to both New York and Boston, the Orioles are...4-1. Yeah, that happened. And the one loss came by a 2-1 score. The Orioles have outscored their opposition 27-9 over the first five games of this killer run, and are tied with the Rangers for the second best record in the AL, a half game behind the Rays. I'm being totally serious. This is actually happening. Baseball: what a crazy game. Game of the Night: A's 4, Rays 3 (12 innings). Do you like solo homers? Well then, this is the game for you! The A's got on the board first with a solo homer by ...

Mark Reynolds hilariously leaves Buck Showalter hanging after HR (GIF)

Mark Reynolds left manager Buck Showalter hanging in one of the funnier moments we’ve seen this season. The Orioles third baseman had crushed a solo home run in the third inning of Friday night’s win over the Red Sox when he made his way to the dugout. The homer was the first of the season for the slumping Reynolds, so his teammates gave him the silent treatment in the dugout...

Baltimore’s Hot Start and the Case of J.J. Hardy

The Orioles had the highlight of the weekend. No, not Chris Davis pitching, but this: [Not sure where this originated, but I discovered it via Ryan Hudson] The Orioles should be feeling really good. Prior to the season the usual trio of the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays were considered the contenders for the American League East, with the Blue Jays perhaps as the upcoming outsider...

Video: Baltimore Orioles infielder Chris Davis pitches 2 scoreless innings; gets win in 17 inning game against Red Sox

It took six hours and seven minutes to complete but the Baltimore Orioles finally defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-6 in 17 innings at Fenway Park this afternoon to earn a series sweep. Eighteen pitchers took the mound throwing a combined 570 pitches. Two of the men who toed the rubber aren’t pitchers [...]

Orioles Bullpen is Amazing

The biggest surprise team of the 2012 MLB season thus far has been the Baltimore Orioles at 19-9.  They're getting timely hitting and decent starting pitching, but it's the bullpen that has been  the big story.  Their relief pitchers are so effective that a position player, Chris Davis, was forced to the mound today and worked 2 scoreless innings and picked up the win...

DH Davis is winning pitcher in Orioles' 17-inning victory

BOSTON - That wasn't first baseman/DH Chris Davis who had ice packs on his right shoulder and elbow after Sunday's game. It was winning pitcher Chris Davis who had the ice on. Davis, who had a miserable day at the plate that almost got him into the record books for strikeouts, outpitched Red Sox outfielder Darnell McDonald to pick up the first win by an American League...

Reimold on DL...

This is too bad for Nolan Reimold and the Orioles... Orioles place Reimold on 15-day disabled list The Orioles today announced that they have placed OF NOLAN REIMOLD on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 1, with a herniated disc and recalled CA LUIS EXPOSITO from Triple-A Norfolk. Reimold, 28, is batting .313/.333/.627 in 16 games this season.  He had a career and...

O’s win in 17th for sweep at Fenway, own best record in MLB

What a weekend at Fenway for the Birds. Not only did they complete their first 3-game sweep in Beantown since way back in 1994, but the way they did it on Sunday afternoon was something that O’s fans will never forget. It took 17 innings, both teams using position players to pitch, a huge relay throw from J.J. Hardy to Matt Wieters, Wieters subsequently blocking the plate and...

Orioles 9, Red Sox 6(17)

First baseman Chris Davis struck out five times, grounded into a double play and then tossed two scoreless innings of relief after Baltimore ran out of pitchers, picking up the win as the Orioles beat Boston 9-6 Sunday in 17 innings. Adam Jones hit a three-run homer in the top of the 17th off Darnell McDonald, an outfielder the Red Sox put on the mound once their bullpen was empty...

Orioles Position Player Pitches Better, Sox Lose 9-6 in 17

Adam Jones slammed a 3-run home run off Darnell McDonald in the top of the 17th inning to give the Orioles a 9-6 win and a 3-game sweep of the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday. McDonald was in the game after the Red Sox had gone through 7 relief pitchers. Position player Chris Davis got the win in relief with 2 scoreless innings after Balitmore had also used 7 relief pitchers.You...

Game 27: Orioles 8, Red Sox 2

Game one of this series, the O's went into Fenway and had to face Jon Lester - that usually seems like an auto-loss. Especially when the Birds fell behind. But no, they battled back - a Wieters' triple, Mark Reynolds' first home run of the year (plus a double and a walk), three walks and a hit from Wilson Betemit - and the bullpen pitched 8 scoreless innings as the Orioles...

Memorable position-players to take the mound

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox in a 17-inning marathon at Fenway Park yesterday afternoon, 9-6. Managers Buck Showalter and Bobby Valentine were required to go deep into their bullpen, and had to look outside it for help. After both skippers used 8 pitchers on their roster, they went to position players to [...]

Series Spotlight: Rangers at Orioles (May 7-10)

Getting this one up a little late today due to the extremely busy news day....sorry about that. By the time you're reading this, the first game in the series will have already begun (and possibly concluded), so we'll see how accurate my analysis is pretty quickly, right? Anyway, there is a very weak slate of games going during this week. There are a total of four series between...
