Going into Saturday's game, eyes around baseball were focued on two players: Bryce Harper of the Nationals, and Mike Trout of the Angels. This was Harper's first action in the show, but Trout had received a brief callup last year for the Angels. Their expectations were not necessarily met. Playing left field and batting seventh, Harper went 1/3 with a double and a sac fly, while Trout went 0/4 with a strikeout for the Angels, leading off and also playing left field. It wasn't necessarily the starmaking debut that many expected from the two prospects, but at the end of the day, it's just one game for each of them Game of the Night: Marlins 3, Diamondbacks 2. Arizona got a pair of runs in the first inning courtesy of an RBI double by Gerardo Parra, and an RBI single from Miguel Montero. Through six, the 2-0 lead still stood. Then, Miami starting chipping away. In the seventh, Jose Reyes singled in Omar Infante to make it 2-1. In the eighth, Logan Morrison hit a solo ho...

Harper ready to make big league debut

Bryce Harper's first day in the major leagues came with all the hype one would expect for the player dubbed ''Baseball's Chosen One'' when he was only 16 years old. Talking to a large crowd of reporters in the visitor's dugout at Dodger Stadium before the Washington Nationals played the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night, Harper expressed how excited...

Nationals call up Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper, the kiss-blowing phenom, will finally be making  his Major League debut. After struggling in the minors to start of the season, the Nationals have decided that the sooner they bring him up the better. I don’t understand the timing of the move, because besides the fact that Harper was hitting .250 in the minors, the Nationals have been playing like the best team...

There Was a Full Moon When Bryce Harper Got His First MLB Hit

There has been much talk about Bryce Harper and his MLB debut this year. On Saturday night he did not disappoint his supporters and doubled and had a sacrifice fly in his Major League debut for Washington. Unfortunately some of the thunder was stolen by two other entities. The first is Matt Kemp who hit a walk-off homer in the 10th inning as the Dodgers rallied late for the win...

Proof Bryce Harper’s Fans Will Go To Jail To Meet Their Heartthrob

At what point does MLB come up with some stupid idea like barbed wire fence around their fields to prevent drunks from going over the 4 1/2 foot walls to run around an outfield. Electric fences? Cattle prod force field that knows fans from players because of a chip implanted in your shoulder before entry to MLB games? Just another weekend in baseball. Two fans running on fields,...

Bryce Harper’s Major League Debut was Memorable

[Box Score] [WaPo] [Big League Stew] [DC Sports Blog] [Dodgers Now] I’m happy with what I saw of Bryce Harper’s big league debut. The only at-bat I missed last night was his first MLB hit, a rocket double off the base of the wall that would have been out of most parks. But I saw all I needed to see. The hustle, the look, the grey bat. The incredible bat speed. The rifleman throw...

Trout & Harper Arrive!

Mike Trout has made his season debut and Bryce Harper will soon make his big league debut. It is probably too much to handle at once, but we don't have much choice. Let's look at the decision making that went into both and whether or not they will be here to stay.Trout hit leadoff today. The Angels as a team had a .195 average and .250 OBP out of their leadoff hitter up until...

DMV: Bryce Harper Reality Better Than Bryce Harper Hype

Nats swept in LA, but Harper shows talent in field and at plate. [USAT] Dodger fans don’t take kindly to Bryce, including this moon shot. [Nats Enq.] Bryce rocks a skullet and a lot of eye black. [Big League Stew, Bog] Desperate for offense, Nats also bring up big-hitter Tyler Moore. [FB] Caps look for more emotion to steal Game 2 win in MSG. [Wash. Times] Breakdown of Caps picture...

Angels release veteran Abreu, promote top prospect Trout

Needing a spark to ignite a turnaround from the worst start in franchise history (6-14, matching 2002), the Los Angeles Angels gave veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu his release following Friday's 3-2 loss to Cleveland and promoted outfielder Mike Trout from Triple-A Salt Lake. After a spring training interrupted by a viral infection and limited by shoulder inflammation, the...

Angels call up Mike Trout after releasing Bobby Abreu

The Angels promoted prospect Mike Trout and released Bobby Abreu on Friday in response to the team’s early-season struggles. The Angels are 6-14, have lost five in a row, and are currently one of the worst teams in the American League. They’re tied for last in the AL with 13 home runs, tied for the third-fewest runs scored, and third-worst in slugging percentage. They’re hoping...

Nationals Prospects Invade Los Angeles, Still Get Swept by Dodgers

The Washington Nationals not only got to see at-bats from Bryce Harper this weekend at the major league-level in Los Angeles, but highly touted first base prospect Tyler Moore got the call up on Sunday when Mark DeRosa was sent to the 15-day DL for an oblique strain. It made for an incredibly young line up for the Nats, and yet another game with virtually no offensive production...
