The final winless team was taken off the board last night, when the Twins defeated the Angels 6-5. Minnesota came back from a 5-2 deficit, and hung on in the late innings to win the game. Garrett just wrote yesterday that the Twins might go winless for quite awhile. Well, they won't go winless now, but with 18 games left this month against tough teams, if they had a 4-17 month, would anyone be surprised?

Game of the Night: Rockies 17, Giants 8. It has to be a little disheartening for Giants fans to put an eight-spot on the board, and still not come close to winning. In fact, despite scoring eight runs, seven of them came in one inning, when the Rockies had a 6-0 lead already. They'd score three more in the bottom of the fourth, and the Giants held a lead for a whopping one inning. And in typical "I HATE THIS GAME" status, despite the Rockies winning by nine runs, Tyler Chatwood got a save for throwing three innings to finish the game. Yep. Perhaps more interesting: the Rockies only struck out three Giants hitters, and allowed three homers. They also walked four. Hmmmm. This seems like a post later in the day.

Pitching Line of the Night: Ricky Romero tried his damndest to finish off a complete game for the Toronto Blue Jays, but exited after 8 1/3 innings and 104 pitches. Romero allowed just one run on three hits, walking two and striking out five. After Romero walked the first two batters of the ninth and got a fly out, closer Sergio Santos was brought in to face Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz, who he took care of swiftly to convert his first save chance of the season.

Hitting Line of the Night: I was receiving tweets on Tuesday night asking me what Jason Heyward was wrong with me. Of course, he reached base I believe two more times on Tuesday after I got those tweets, and last night, he had his best game of the young season so far. Heyward went 3/4 with two runs, two RBI, a homer, and a stolen base. He's a huge key for this Atlanta team this year, and early returns are very good. Two more offensive stars from the Giants-Rockies game: Nate Schierholtz hit two homers, and Carlos Gonzalez had two triples, four runs, and four RBI. Whew.

Spotlight Series: Rays 4, Tigers 2. These spotlight series games have been awesome so far. Justin Verlander ran roughshod over the Rays for eight innings, but when it came to the ninth, he couldn't slam the door shut. In the ninth, Verlander allowed three hits and walked a batter, mixing a strikeout in there as well. Of course, all four of those runners he put on base were allowed to score by the combination of Daniel Scheleth (who walked the one batter he faced) and Jose Valverde (who allowed a two run, go-ahead single to Ben Zobrist). For the Rays, James Shields allowed just two runs in eight innings, walking one and striking out five. In typical baseball fashion, Verlander has thrown 16 1/3 innings in two starts, allowed four hits and three walks, struck out 14, and doesn't have a win. Yup. For offensive junkies, Zobrist had a pair of hits for the Rays, while Miguel Cabrera had two for the Tigers. The rubber match is today, and will feature Jeff Niemann and Drew Smyly.

Other Games: The White Sox pounded Justin Masterson and the Indians 10-6. The Braves have a winning streak after a 6-3 win over the Astros. Toronto improved to 4-2 with a 3-1 win over the Red Sox. The Reds walked off on the Cardinals 4-3. Stephen Strasburg shut down the Mets in a 4-0 Nationals win. The A's beat the Royals 5-4 in 12 innings on a walk-off hit batsman. The Brewers used a late George Kottaras homer to beat the Cubs 2-1. The Yankees rallied back to beat the Orioles 6-4 in ten innings to complete the sweep. Arizona lost for the first time, falling late to the Padres 2-1. The Mariners beat the Rangers 4-3 behind four runs in the final two innings. The Phillies beat up on Josh Johnson and defeated the Marlins 7-1. The Dodgers overwhelmed the Pirates 4-1 behind Chad Billingsley.

Today's Games: Abbreviated schedule today on getaway day. Dan Haren and Francisco Liriano is a pretty solid matchup in Minnesota. Mat Latos and Gio Gonzalez in Washington is also a sexy matchup, while Zack Greinke and Matt Garza due at Wrigley Field.

Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
