The Chicago White Sox will be without Adam Dunn and Kevin Youkilis for Friday night's series opener against the Kansas City Royals. Dunn aggravated a right oblique strain that cost him two games last weekend. Manager Robin Ventura said he hopes Dunn can return to the lineup Saturday. Dunn is second in the majors with 38 home runs. He is hitting .208 with a team-high 88 RBIs. Youkilis left the team to be with his wife, who is expecting to give birth to their first child. Youkilis is hitting .242 with 12 homers and 38 RBIs since being traded to the White Sox in June. Ventura hopes Youkilis can also rejoin the team this weekend.

White Sox A.J. Pierzynski PED Suspension Rumors

Rumors began to swirl on Chicago talk radio and in social media yesterday, that Chicago White Sox catcher, A.J. Pierzynski tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and would begin serving a 50-game suspension immediately, essentially being lost for the season.  With the White Sox clinging to a one-game lead over the Detroit Tigers, losing the veteran catcher for the season...

Pierzynski calls rumors 'completely baseless'

The last thing the White Sox needed in the middle of a heated pennant race with Detroit were distractions thrown their way. But there it was on Friday, front and center, so much so that catcher A.J. Pierzynski addressed the media before the eventual 7-5 loss to Kansas City, over an internet rumor that said the veteran was under suspicion for steroid use by Major League Baseball...

Ozzie: Strasburg nobody's business

Ozzie Guillen offered his opinion on the controversial Stephen Strasburg shutdown in Washington, and as expected he used plenty of expletives to make his point.

Pitch Location and Swing Angles: Dunn and Bruce

Last Thursday, I took a stab at predicting how batter’s swing influences their ground ball / fly ball splits. One of the most important retorts to the research (a retort made both in the comments and on The Book blog) was that pitch location was the determining factor of bat angles — what I was attributing to hitter tendencies (at least for hitters who have big GB/FB platoon...

White Sox 5, Royals 4

Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers and Paul Konerko each homered to back Chris Sale's six solid innings and lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. Sale (16-6) scattered five hits and struck out six over six innings, winning his eighth straight decision at U.S. Cellular Field and helping Chicago end a six-game skid against Kansas City. He allowed...

Ozzie Guillen Makes Dig at Yankees Collapse While Ranting About Stephen Strasburg Situation

Ozzie Guillen has been known to throw a tirade or two, usually for very good reason. But him getting all bent out of shape because people want to see Stephen Strasburg keep pitching? Well, that seems a little misguided. Guillen was at his profanity-laced best Friday when asked about the Nationals' plan to not have Strasburg pitch beyond Sept. 12 in an effort to keep Strasburg...

Royals-White Sox Preview

(AP) -- Chris Sale was the surprising ace of the Chicago White Sox rotation in the first half, but he's labored over the last two months. Sale will try to avoid a third straight losing start Saturday and help the White Sox end a frustrating six-game skid against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Central-leading Chicago holds a one-game lead over Detroit and Sale (15-6, 2.93...

Awesome Comparisons: American Presidents And Baseball Figures (Vol.2)

James K. Polk- Branch Rickey James K. Polk was among the most important presidents in the first half of the 19th century. Achievements included expanding the U.S. to the Pacific via conquest of Mexico and establishing a treasury system that lasted for the better part of a century. Although (or perhaps because) Polk’s presidency was preceded and followed by several forgettable presidencies...
