Dan Duquette has a plan. It is not the plan that many wanted. Prince Fielder is not part of that plan, neither is trading Adam Jones or Jeremy Guthrie. No, but Duquette has a plan. And it is very risky. Looking at the moves Duquette has made this offseason I think it is pretty clear, he still believes in the talent that is on this roster. I made this comment at fanfest: "If Brian Matusz [et al] played at the level we expected them to play, then MacPhail would still be here..."; etc etc. I only now realize how true those words are, because I think the O's GM feels the same way. Duquette has spent all offseason augmenting a bench, flooding the minor leagues and plumbing the depths of South Korea and even New Zealand for fresh talent. The biggest acquisition so far, the Taiwanese starter Chen Wei-Yin, is seen by many to be little more than a middle of the rotation starter. Duquette obviously believes that the Orioles true elite pitcher is currently on the rost...

The Colorado Rockies made a significant addition to their rotation on Monday, acquiring right-hander Jeremy Guthrie from the Baltimore Orioles for right-handers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, according to a major-league source. Guthrie, 32, likely will be the Rockies' No. 1 starter. He was scheduled to go to a salary arbitration hearing Monday; he asked for $10.25 million...

Pitcher Jeremy Guthrie Traded to the Colorado Rockies

Most fans had the feeling that a move was going to happen with the Orioles right before camp opened up in a few weeks. This morning, pitcher Jeremy Guthrie was traded to the Colorado Rockies for pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, according to the Baltimore Sun. He's been rumored to be potentially be traded several years, and it finally happened. I figured that Guthrie...

Orioles Trade Jeremy Guthrie For…Huh?

This is a trade that just doesn’t make sense to me: The Rockies and Orioles are nearing an agreement that would send starter Jeremy Guthrie to Colorado, most likely for pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, reports Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. (MLB Trade Rumors) Let me preface this by saying that I like Jeremy Guthrie and Jason Hammel more than most people...

Rockies and Orioles swap innings eaters

The Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies made a rare February trade today, with Baltimore sending starter Jeremy Guthrie to the Rockies in exchange for starter Jason Hammel and reliever Matt Lindstrom. Guthrie then immediately agreed to an $8.2 million contract in his final year of arbitration. I don't understand this deal at all for either team. Guthrie is a solid starter...

Orioles Trade Jeremy Guthrie For Hammel, Lindstrom

I thought the Orioles should have been trying to trade Jeremy Guthrie (during the deadline last year, if possible), given his age and proximity to free agency, but I never thought the team would do it given that Guthrie - though not exactly an Ace by any stretch of the imagination - is the only pitcher on the club they could count on to be productive (ie, he's theirace). But...

A person familiar with the deal says the Colorado Rockies have agreed to trade pitchers Matt Lindstrom and Jason Hammel to the Baltimore Orioles for right-hander Jeremy Guthrie. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the trade has yet to be announced. Guthrie, who turns 33 in April, agreed to a one-year, $8.2 million contract with the Rockies...

2012 Fantasy Baseball: Zach Britton & The Baltimore Orioles Starting Rotation Preview

Zach Britton (credits below) Nothing seems to change in O-Town each year we discuss the starting pitching rotation. Good young talent filled with question marks and mediocrity is the norm in Baltimore. This year Jeremy Guthrie will lead the pack as the team's ace but how things shape up behind him still remains to be seen. I honestly can not find a pitcher in this rotation worth...

Orioles notes: arbitration hearings, Jackson, free agency, Robinson

Barring a last minute change, the Orioles are expected to go to arbitration hearings with starter Jeremy Guthrie and swingman Brad Bergesen -- which would be the first time the club has met with the three-person, independent panel since before the 2006 season.
