In a subpar season for the Toronto Bluejays filled with poor pitching, especially relief, comes the inspiring comeback story for the resilient Dustin McGowan. Through two different arm surgeries and a plethora of setbacks, Dustin is now making rehab starts in Dunedin after not having pitched in the majors since July 2008. After pitching 1 inning outings for a month in extended spring training games, Dustin has now been asked to increase his pitch count slowly in an attempt to bring him back as a starter. Posting less than impressive stats in his first few outings, the right hander posted a scoreless 2.2 innings in his latest start, but still only reaching 45 pitches.
Now the questioning begins? Why risk bringing back McGowan as a starter when we know he is a whisker away from blowing out his arm again? Throughout the minor leagues, there was always talk about McGowan coming in as a dominant closer with his filthy and hard stuff. Reaching 95 mph on the radar gun during his rehab star...
