CINCINNATI For a lame duck, Dusty Baker doesnt waddle when he walks and in fact he walks like a man and talks like a man.His contract expires after this year and despite having his team in first place most of the season, the Cincinnati Reds manager hasnt heard the first peep from the front office about a contract extension.Im getting tired of getting asked that question everywhere we go on the road from other players, coaches, managers, scouts and front office people from other teams, Baker said Saturday afternoon as he stood behind the batting cage watching his team take practice cuts before an important game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Its gone this far (with nothing happening) so I figure I might as well ride it out the rest of the year and see where it goes, he said. You know, at this stage of my life I have a big say in it, too. Before Baker arrived in 2008, the franchise was in a messy cesspool of the losing doldrums, 11 straight seasons below .500.A new regime, fronted by...

By doing so, he was able to help lift his...

Rolen a true pro for surging Reds

This isnt like 2006, when former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa benched third baseman Scott Rolen twice during the playoffs. Back then, Rolen was not happy. He had given himself to the team physically during the regular season, playing 142 games with an ailing shoulder. He then proved his point to La Russa after starting the postseason 1 for 11, batting .351 with a .955 OPS over...

Reds unsure if starter Cueto can go Tuesday

The Reds aren't sure whether right-hander Johnny Cueto will be able to start as planned Tuesday because of a blister on the index finger of his pitching hand. Cueto was supposed to start Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals but was pushed back two days after he developed the blister during his bullpen session. He swapped places with Homer Bailey, who was moved up to Sunday...

And by doing so, were able to reclaim first place in the NL Central after the Pirates suffered a defeat.

Break Over And The Friday Links

Here we go. No better way to kick off the REAL start of the baseball season than with a three game kerfuffle with the Reds. (Side: Ho-ly crap, can we raise up off the Pirate’s business for about two seconds ESPN? They had a really good first half. Just like they did last year. Why don’t we wait until September before calling them ‘the real deal’. 19 straight losing seasons...
