Found May 21, 2013 on FF Locker Room:
Right-handed reliever Eduardo Sanchez is switching organizations but still finds himself in the National League Central Division as he was claimed off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals by the Chicago Cubs. Chicago has assigned him to Triple-A Iowa. Sanchez, while not decked out with talent, still has enough of an arsenal to where there was no doubt that he would be claimed, and I am sure the Cardinals were hoping that it wasn’t within the division. Look for Sanchez to make his way to the Cubbies sometime this year as an extra arm in their less-than-formidable bullpen. Bad news for Cardinals pitchers Jaime Garcia, Jake Westbrook and Fernando Salas.

It was another rough couple days for Cardinals pitching. First, according to Jennifer Langosch, Jake Westbook had to cut his bullpen session short today after 20 pitches due to experiencing more discomfort in his elbow.  Its unclear as to how long this will set him back or what the next step will be.  What is clear is that Cardinals fans everywhere will be increasing their calls...

Mitchell Boggs Is Mike Matheny's Sylvia Rosen

Let me get this straight... use new guys that aren't Fernando Salas and Mitchell Boggs and win a bunch of games. Use guys that are Fernando Salas and Mitchell Boggs and lose a bunch of games.  If you're Mike Matheny, what do you do? What. Do. You. Do? Let's establish that the Cardinals offense was mitigated by Jason Marquis. (Yes, THE Jason Marquis). 2 runs aren...

35 of a rotation is good enough for Sports Illustrated

The St. Louis Cardinals are SOOOO popular ... How popular are they, Johnny? The St. Louis Cardinals are so popular, a leading sports magazine published a cover story on how good their starting rotation is even when 40 percent of it is on the DL. That's respect. The cover of this week's Sports Illustrated shows Adam Wainwright, Shelby Miller, Jaime Garcia, Lance Lynn and...

Cardinals' Jaime Garcia to see Dr. Andrews

He's a great doctor, but anytime his name is associated with a player's name, it's generally bad news.  This time, that bad news is hanging around Jaime Garcia.  The St. Louis Cardinals' veteran starter was just recently placed on the disabled list with a shoulder strain.  Now, it seems that strain may be more serious as Garcia intends to see Dr. James Andrews...

Cardinals' Jake Westbrook suffers setback

And the hits keep coming.  Not off the bats of opposing players, but in the form of injuries to the St. Louis Cardinals pitching staff.  Jake Westbrook is the latest victim.  He was already on the 15-day DL with right elbow inflammation, but Westbrook was on the path to recovery.  Until yesterday. Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com reported Westbrook's setback via Twitter last...

Cardinals Wings Getting Clipped

Let's recap: 1) Chris Carpenter goes down before the season starts to ongoing nerve damage that we and he thought was fixed with surgery last season. He's placed on the 60 day DL and is rehabbing for a return sometime in 2013... just not sure when exactly. 2) Jason Motte doesn't pitch an inning in 2013 after marking over 40 saves in 2012. He's recommended...

Cardinals' Jaime Garcia requires season-ending surgery

St. Louis Cardinals right-handed starting pitcher Jaime Garcia will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The procedure has been recommended by Dr. James Andrews, as he confirmed the original diagnosis of a small tear in Garcia's labrum. Heyman adds that the right-hander is said to have what was described as a 30- to 40-percent tear...

Cardinals' David Freese sits for third-straight game

If injuries are any indication of a team's ability to win, the St. Louis Cardinals should be in the basement of the National League Central.  Instead, they are banging out the best record in baseball with four starting pitchers on the DL and more injuries continuing to pile up.  David Freese, one of the main pieces of the team's offense sat out last night for the third...

Is Jaime Garcia's career with the St. Louis Cardinals over? - Cruddy Show #77

It become official on Wednesday afternoon. St. Louis Cardinals fans learned that the team would be without the service of left-handed starter Jaime Garcia for the remainder of the season. After suffering with the injury throughout much of 2012, including the playoffs, Garcia gave it one last try and fared pretty well up until his last two starts. And now, months after several...

Jaime Garcia to have season ending surgery

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was off to a pretty good start in 2013, unfortunately his 2013 season is ending. Garcia was diagnosed with a 30-40% tear in his shoulder. Dr. James Andrews made the diagnosis and recommended the surgery he however won’t be performing it that will fall to the team doctors. Dr. James Andrews recommended the surgery, confirming the original...

St. Louis Cardinals: Can Tyler Lyons keep up with the rest of the Cards rotation?

What a difference seven weeks has made. Out of spring training, the St. Louis Cardinals had a solid pitching staff that was exciting to watch. What fans couldn't have known at that time was how impressive of a performance they were about to put up. Arguably that performance peaked when Shelby Miller and Adam Wainwright posted back to back shutouts - with one hit and two hits...

Late night purely platonic Matt Garza thoughts

Matt Garza did in fact return to the mound on Tuesday and actually pitched rather well despite his bullpen failing.  Garza was coming back from injury and thus was subject to a pitch count as the Cubs wanted to make sure he was comfortable and could handle the load based on a carefully crafted plan.  Safe to say Garza passed his test and he should be given a longer leash next time...

Cubs Celebrate Almora Departure with Laugher at Diablo Park

Steve Clevenger laced an RBI double and a single and scored two runs, Jesse Hodges belted an RBI double and a triple and scored three times, Dong-Yub Kim doubled, singled twice, drove-in two runs, and scored another, and Jacob Rogers drove-in three runs with an RBI 6-3 GO, a triple, and a bases-loaded walk, as the Cubs drubbed the Angels 16-3 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training...

Chicago Cubs Activate Right-Handed Starter Matt Garza

The Chicago Cubs have been waiting for this moment for quite some time, nearly 10 months to be exact, as they have activated right-handed starter Matt Garza, who has looked goo on his minor league rehab stint, from the disabled list on Tuesday. Expect him to jump right into the starting rotation with someone being bumped, most likely Carlos Villanueva. I’m not trying to play devils...

Recap: Cards 10, Padres 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Daniel Descalso hit his first career grand slam and had a career-high five RBIs, and Adam Wainwright won for the first time at Petco Park as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres 10-2 Tuesday night. Descalso lined a 1-2 pitch from Anthony Bass into the Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Deck in right-center with one out in the eighth, his second homer of the...
