If you stayed up to watch the conclusion of last night’s (re: this morning’s) Red Sox game, you had a lot invested in the final outcome. Not only would it have been a truly devastating loss when it comes to the Sox’ playoff chances, but most were likely sacrificing hours of sleep for one of the more nail-biting finishes of the season. If Boston somehow manages to find the postseason at the end of this wacky, up and down, injury plagued regular season, Eric Patterson might be in the running for clutch hit of the year. His two out, two run double to the left center field gap in Seattle gave the Sox an 8-6 lead in the 13th inning, but more importantly saved the team from an epic failure of both relief pitching and defense against one of the worst teams in the American League.
