By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer 2013 Outlook: This should be an interesting year for "ErNasty" Frieri, coming off an impressive debut in 2012. Apparently Ernesto has been developing a changeup that he feels comfortable with in addition to his electric fastball and his above average slider. Although the pitch mix should help him strike more batters out, the thing that Frieri needs to be careful of is limiting the amount of walks that he gives up. I think this one issue, above all others, will make a real impact on Ernie's success this season. Beyond the walk issue his command and control of his pitches will also contribute to his success and failure in a high profile relief role. Since Madson is starting off the year on the DL, Ernesto will be the de facto closer for the time being and he certainly has a complete lack of fear facing any batter which is a good attitude to have if you are the 9th inning stopper. Look for Ernesto to provide a k...

Mark Trumbo Player Profile & Projections

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer -- 2013 Outlook: Mark Trumbo had a true Jekyll and Hyde season in 2012. The first half he was on fire (.306 BA/.358 OBP/.608 SLG w/a .327 BABIP) and was going toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the game and then, almost inexplicably, he fell off a cliff (.227 BA/.271 OBP/.359 SLG w/a .302 BABIP) after the All-Star Break...

Josh Hamilton Says Comments About Rangers Playing in ‘Football Town’ Have Been ‘Absolute Nightmare’ for Him

Josh Hamilton is headed back to Arlington, Texas, the place where his baseball career came back to life and where he put up some of his biggest numbers. But the slugger, who signed with Los Angeles this offseason, isn’t expecting a warm welcome — and he knows exactly why. Shortly after Hamilton signed with the Angels, he angered much of Texas by calling Dallas “a football town...

Mike Scioscia hurting Angels with his sacrifice bunt-happy ways

Mike Scioscia used to be lauded for his smallball managerial style, but it’s time to recognize that the approach is hurting the team. The Los Angeles Angels have gone 1-2 to start the season. People like to say it’s too early to overreact, but it’s not too early for me to point out some poor decisions by Scioscia. Twice in three games Scioscia has taken away the team’s best...

Angels' Ramirez, Reds' Covington suspended

Los Angeles Angels catcher Carlos Ramirez and Cincinnati right-hander Vaughn Covington have been suspended 50 games each for second violations for drugs of abuse under baseball's minor league program. The 25-year-old Ramirez was selected from Arizona State in the eighth round of the 2009 draft. He is with Double-A Arkansas of the Texas League, where he hit .204 last year with...

Josh Hamilton compares himself to Jesus

ARLINGTON, Texas While the boos and jeers rained down on Josh Hamilton during his return to Rangers Ballpark, he got some comforting words in the dugout. "He said, 'Where was Jesus got-after the most? His hometown,'" said the deeply religious Hamilton, who declined to name the source of inspiration. "Baseball wise, this is my hometown." It certainly...

Josh Hamilton lustily booed in Arlington return

Friday was the home opener for the Texas Rangers after opening the season down the road in Houston, and their opponents for the first series of the year with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and former Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton. Hamilton came to the plate for the first time in the top of the second, and as you can tell in the video above, the Rangers faithful weren't...

Former Texas Rangers starting pitcher C.J. Wilson has a really tough life. He signed a five-year, 77.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels in 2011 and he has a supermodel girlfriend. Sounds like he hit the lottery twice. Wilson, who was usually a great quote when he was playing in Texas, recently gave SI.com an interesting interview about his Brazilian supermodel girlfriend...

Rangers face Angels, Hamilton in home opener

Josh Hamilton will be in the other dugout when the Texas Rangers play their home opener Friday. Texas is coming off an opening series at Houston, when Yu Darvish was one out from a perfect game and Rangers pitchers struck out 43 batters in posting two shutouts. But so much attention in the first home series will be on Hamilton being in a Los Angeles Angels uniform. Hamilton was...

Persepective after the Angels first series

There's been quite a bit of hype, a lot of expectations that have followed the Angels into the season. The first week of the season is usually a decent sign of where your team is going to go this season, though as we saw last year these expectations aren't always as solid as we'd like. The first series of the season can at least give you some insight as to how your team...

Josh Hamilton Gets Treated Just as Expected on Return to Arlington

Josh Hamilton did not have the smoothest end to his time with the Texas Rangers at the end of last season nor when he opted to sign with a division rival over the Rangers. Fans were not too distraught over his departure with the way he played down the stretch, but that does not necessarily mean they wanted him to go. Once he regained control of his demons again he'd be back to...
