Found May 05, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
This game had a definite carnival atmosphere feel to it as the Atlanta Braves beat the Mets by the score of 9-4 to split the rain-shortened two-game series at Turner Field. What a comedy of errors for the Mets even though the box score would suggest a clean game. I hate sad stories and bad endings so this will be short and sweet bitter. What was up with Duda on that fly ball? Dude, check out the brunette in Row 3. Jon Niese struggled from the word go and while it looks like he took a real pounding, it was more like a spanking as the Atlanta Official Scorer was handing out free base-hits today instead of some well deserved errors. In the end, Niese lasted just 4.0 innings and was charged with seven earned runs on seven hits and an appalling six walks! Get that kid outta there… The Mets southpaw was betrayed by some of the most horrendous defense I’ve ever seen. The most egregious miscue came in the third inning when Lucas Duda misjudged a routine fly ball off the bat of Freddie Freem...

Featured Post: Keith Hernandez Needs To Lay Off Duda’s Approach

Ever since Lucas Duda burst into our consciousness in 2010, nobody has been satisfied with his plate approach. Too many strikeouts and not enough walks, I frequently wrote. He gives away too many at-bats. He tries to pull too much and doesn’t use the entire field. All valid in the early Duda critique. Now, unbelievably, he’s become too selective, too patient at the plate. No...

Lucas Duda Unfairly Criticized On Plate Approach

Niese’s Struggles Continue; Mets Have Lost His Last Four Starts

There will be days like today, where the meltdown is complete in all phases, beginning with Jon Niese’s inability to get hitters out, an offense offering little resistance to Tim Hudson, and a porous defense. NIESE: Didn’t have it. (AP) It’s not alarming the Mets couldn’t do anything to Hudson, but what should be a source of concern is Niese, who was hit hard in his fourth...

Featured Post: Is Duda Being Too Patient At The Plate?

“Lucas Duda is the preeminent example of the Mets’ organizational offensive philosophy of patience and power,” writes Jorge Castillo of the Star-Ledger. The left fielder’s .417 on-base percentage was 11th in the majors entering play Saturday and his .538 slugging percentage ranked in the top 30. But his remarkable selectivity could also be detrimental on a team that relies...

Terry Collins Says Jon Niese Was “Too Strong” In Yesterday’s Loss

There will be days like Sunday, where the meltdown is complete in all phases, beginning with Jon Niese, who had an inability to get hitters out, an offense that offered little resistance to Tim Hudson, and a porous defense. It’s not alarming the Mets couldn’t do anything against Hudson, but what should be a source of concern is Niese, who was hit hard in his fourth straight start...

Expectations and the 2013 Mets

Though nobody in the Mets front office wanted to say it directly, the fans and the media were well aware of what 2013 was for the Mets: a continuation of the “rebuilding” process. There were great building blocks in place in Matt Harvey, Jonathon Niese, Josh Edgin, Bobby Parnell, Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada, and David Wright. There were top-shelf prospects on the cusp of making...

Hudson, Freeman lead Braves to win

Too much rest led to too many walks for Jonathon Niese. With his start pushed back by an off day Thursday and a rainout Saturday, Niese was wild on Sunday as he matched his career high with six walks and gave up seven runs in the New York Mets' 9-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Niese, who had been scheduled to pitch Saturday, was making his first start since April 28 -- exactly...

Horrorless House

First off, I want to make sure that I cover the beginning of the game and give proper due to John Buck, Lucas Duda, and Marlon Byrd. All three hit home runs before the ninth inning. Buck keeps his hot start to the season alive with a two run home run. Lucas Duda's home run came in the next inning and proved that he can stop being so damn streaky and hit a home run every once...
