The Tampa Bay Rays and All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria have agreed to a contract extension through 2022, with a team option for 2023. The new deal will incorporate the salaries for 2013-16 from his original contract and extends six more years for an additional 100 million. Longoria, 27, was the 2008 AL Rookie of the Year and a three-time All-Star. He missed most of the 2012 season with a partially torn left hamstring. In 74 games, he hit .289 with 17 home runs, 55 RBIs, a .369 on-base percentage and a .527 slugging percentage. The Rays were 47-27 with him in the lineup and 41-44 without. The Rays said Longoria underwent a minor procedure on his left hamstring last Tuesday, but should be fully recovered in time for spring training.
