Any story that proves how and why the Yankees aren’t evil to the core is a fantastic story in my book.
Oddly enough, I think I first came across this on boston.com, actually. Breaking bread with the enemy stories always make for good press.
Last summer, Red Sox coach Ron Johnson’s 10-year-old daughter was horseback riding when a car struck her, almost killing her and forcing doctors to amputate her leg above the knee. Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long is friends with Ron Johnson, and called a team meeting after hearing the news, during which the Yanks “passed the hat” and sent a check to help with medical costs. Apparently, the Yanks contributed almost as much as the Sox players...
