The longtime head athletic trainer of the New York Yankees once wrote that Roger Clemens ''maintains complete confidence and respect'' for strength coach Brian McNamee. Gene Monahan, who retired last year, testified Wednesday in the perjury trial of the 11-time All-Star pitcher. In 2000, Monahan wrote a letter to the Yankees manager and general manager about Clemens' relationship with McNamee. At the time, the Yankees were hiring McNamee as an assistant strength and conditioning coach to specifically work with Clemens. McNamee says he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone. Clemens is accused of lying to Congress in 2008 when he denied using those substances. The trial is in its sixth week. The government says it has four to six more witnesses to call.

Alex Rodriguez Making Good Use of Candles & Flashlights During His Power Outage

Is Alex Rodriguez Samson, the Biblical character whose supernatural strength disappeared when Delilah cut off his hair?  When I hear the media talk about him these days, that's what comes to mind. I think of the hair as Alex's use of PEDs, and Delilah as Selena Roberts.Whether the lack of PEDs is the reason for his average offense is hard to say at this point, but Alex...

Clemens trial a sad ending for imperfect career

There is something sad about this Roger Clemens, bloated and desperate, clinging with white knuckles to a legacy he can't possibly keep. Granted, he is mostly just trying to keep himself out of prison at this point. He has to fight that fight. But it began with his legacy. Against a lot of evidence to the contrary, he wanted us all to believe The Rocket had not been artificially...

Expert: DNA waste matched Clemens'

A forensic scientist has testified that two cotton balls and a syringe needle allegedly saved after a steroids injection tested positive for Roger Clemens' DNA - in a key moment as the government tries to prove the former pitcher used performance-enhancing drugs. Alan Keel told jurors Friday that the DNA on both cotton ball matches were ''unique to one person who has...

Not-So-Rapid Reaction: Yankees 3, Royals 2

Phil Hughes may never end up the rotation-leading man the Yankees once thought they had. It’s still possible, but becoming less and less likely. Still, he seems to have finally figured out how to be a reliable major league starter, and on this current iteration of the Yankees, that’s a precious skill to possess. Hughes pitched six solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Robinson Cano homered, Phil Hughes beat Kansas City for the second time this month and the New York Yankees -- still looking to bust out with the bats -- eked out a 3-2 victory over the Royals on Tuesday night. Derek Jeter delivered a bases-loaded single that tied the score in the fifth inning and New York rallied from an early two-run deficit to snap a three-game...
