(2011 Pitches)

Galarraga is making his first big league appearance of 2012, after struggling through nine starts at Triple-A. He has a very hittable fastball that sits around 89-92 MPH and has occasionally touched 94. His 89-91 MPH sinker has limited movement and does not generate many ground balls. Galarraga’s best pitch is his 84-87 MPH slider, which he has historically gone to on more than a third of his pitches. He also throws an 82-86 MPH changeup. Galarraga’s slider is a solid pitch, with a whiff rate right around league average. None of his other offerings are all that effective, as they rarely miss bats and often lead to hard contact. Galarraga has not pitched in the majors since May 2011, so it is possible that his approach has changed a bit since we last saw him.

D-backs acquire Astros third baseman Johnson

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks acquired third baseman Chris Johnson from the Astros on Sunday, bolstering a position that has seen limited production all season. Top Play: Justin Maxwell Safety Squeeze

Houston Astros fans have had little to cheer about this season, as their lowly Astros have the worst record in the Major Leagues at 34-67. Although the Astros are likely out of playoff contention, their young players do their best to provide a good show for  the home crowd. Such was the case on Friday night, as Justin Maxwell made an acrobatic move to avoid a tag on a safety squeeze...

Houston Finds Value in Return for Replaceable Part

Jeff Luhnow is at it again. The Houston Astros general manager has flipped starting third baseman Chris Johnson to the playoff-hungry Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for two fringe-B-level prospects. Game 99: Pirates 6 Astros 5

As a Pirate fan, you probably know that sometimes the losing team can have a lot more to do with the outcome of a baseball game than the winning team can ever hope to have. That sometimes, a team is going to lose no matter what their opponents do. The Astros were going to lose this game tonight, no matter how many times the Pirates handed the lead back to them. The Astros built a...
