A familiar face may soon be rejoining the Yankees. According to Trenton Thunder beat writer Josh Norris, former Yankee Chien-Ming Wang was visible at the Yankees’ spring training complex down in Tampa, Fla. this morning. However, Wang has not signed a contract with the team just yet. The Yankees had scouted Wang in the WBC, where he pitched well for his native Taiwan, going 1-0 while pitching 12 scoreless innings. Norris added that Wang will tryout for the Yanks later this week, which will involve throwing some bullpen sessions. Ken Davidoff of the New York Post tweeted moments ago that Wang’s agent, Alan Chang, says that they are talking to multiple teams including the Yanks, and that no timetable for a decision is set in place. Should the Yankees sign Wang, he would provide much needed depth in the pitching department. Wang was once the ace of the Yankees staff, going an impressive 38-13 from 2006-2007. He seriously injured his foot while running the bases in Houston in 2008, and hasn’t been the same since. After suffering arm injuries and missing all of 2010, Wang latched on with the Washington Nationals, where he went 6-6 with a 4.94 ERA over two seasons. Perhaps being back in the Bronx could revitalize a once promising career. Wang would likely come cheap, so he is definitely worth a shot. To recap: Chien-Ming Wang was here this morning. He’ll have a tryout later this week and will throw some bullpens. — Josh Norris (@jnorris427) March 20, 2013
