I wasn't going to bother with this topic, but it appears many fans have taken serious issue with the fact that the Mets plan to honor Chipper Jones before he retires.  Personally, I don't see the harm in acknowledging one of the better guys to pick up a baseball bat in recent memory.

Although Jones has played for one of the team's fiercest rivals for the last ten plus years, he's done so with grace. Despite being a "Met Killer", he's never talked negatively about the Mets organization or its fan base. Fans appear bitter over the fact the Jones has gotten the better of the Mets for the majority of his career.

I also think fans are exaggerating the term tribute. The Mets are not going to stop the game and allow Chipper to do a victory lap around Citi Field.  Prior to the game or maybe shortly after, they'll likely put a message on the big screen and make an announcement about Chipper to those in attendance.  I don't see the harm in that...

Now, with that said I do agree with MetsBlog's Matt Cerrone that fans should instantly break out into one of the loudest "Laaarrrry" chants ever.  I think it would be funny, but at the same time I think Chipper will get a kick out of it too.  It would all be I was goos fun, just like the Hall Of Famer's career.

What do you think? Are the Mets nuts? Am I crazy for thinking this is much ado about nothing? Or are you amongst those who seem to be laying their misplaced hatred at the feet of Chipper Jones?
