If you’re like me, you’re thoroughly disappointed with your first round draft choice in this year’s fantasy baseball draft. Thankfully, the season is only a month old. However, it’s hard not to think that this nonsense could perpetuate… So who’s the biggest first round disaster? Albert Pujols -Albert’s stats are absolutely grotesque. He’s done nothing. Absolutely nothing. There are guys on the waiver wire with stats that are better than Pujols’. Now he’s getting benched or “given the day off”. Awesome. Maybe they don’t have steroids in L.A. Robinson Cano -With the 6th overall pick I took Cano. It’s ABSOLUTELY MIND-BOGGLING that he has so few RBIs after a month hitting in the middle of that lineup. MIND-BOGGLING. He also doesn’t appear to be going on a tear anytime soon. Jacoby Ellsbury -It’s not like he was raking before he got hurt. I’m concerned about Ellsbury. He went on a tear last year and got himself into the first round. However, I’m not seeing any kind of repeat E

Albert Pujols throws glove at Erick Aybar during postgame handshakes (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. There was an unusual moment during the Angels’ postgame handshake lineup on Wednesday night. After beating the Twins 6-2, the Angels players lined up for handshakes and high-fives to celebrate the win. For some reason, Albert Pujols chucked his glove at teammate Erick Aybar. The move was strange and made Pujols look like a jerk, but SI injury...

Pujols Finally Homers

Albert Pujols finally got the homerun monkey off his back.  The all-star first baseman went yard for the first time in an Angels’ uniform, as Los Angeles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, 4-3. Pujols suffered through the worst homerless drought of his career – after signing a monster 10 year, $240 million contract – going an astounding 110 at bats without hitting the...

Pujols Sideshow Finally Over

The Albert Pujols sideshow finally ended on May 6, 2012, in the 111th AB of what has so far been a season of well-paid misery for the former King of St Louis.  It ended with that long-awaited first official home run (although he hit seven in Spring Training) as an Angel; a wait that was so excruciatingly long and drawn-out, it reminded me of the similarly long...

Albert Pujols throws glove at Erick Aybar

After last night's 6-2 Angels win over the Twins, as the Angels are doing their postgame handshakes, shortstop Erick Aybar taps first baseman Albert Pujols on the elbow. Pujols proceeds to whip his glove at Aybar, and looks really, really irritated afterwards, inspecting his elbow. It's worth noting that the elbow that Aybar tapped was the one that Pujols has had problems...

Baseball ProGUESTus: Splat Albert by Matt Welch

******** The Bed

Photo Credit: Marianne O'Leary Although baseball is well underway and the season is chugging along as usual, there are a number of absolute studs that have been seriously underperforming. Obviously everybody and their mother knows of Albert Pujols’ struggles, but Jose Bautista and Robinson Cano are also putting up duds on the regular nowadays. Moving down the totem pole a...

Are the Dodgers For Real?

We are now into May there have been several surprises this baseball season. To the surprise of most people, the Dodgers are in first place in the NL West. This is almost as crazy as Albert Pujols not hitting a homerun in the month of April, but oh wait… that happened… So how are the Dodgers having all of this success? Well, a large part of that is due to Matt Kemp. Most people...

Are Nats & O's booms, Pujols & Valentine busts?

The Baltimore Orioles began the week with the best record in the majors, with Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals close behind. Albert Pujols was slumping, Bobby Valentine was getting booed and Derek Jeter was hitting nearly .400. Signs of the season, or mere mirages? A quick look at the big questions so far in baseball: --- - Can the Orioles stay atop the AL East? Cleveland...

Matt Kemp: LA’s Next Superstar

Los Angeles is the “City of Angels” and its Angels baseball team has a superstar now in Albert Pujols.  But Albert was imported from St. Louis and has yet to prove his worth to the people in LA.  There is someone who wears Dodger blue that is rapidly winning over the people of LA.  His name is Matt Kemp and

Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now!

I had a dream.  In this dream, I negotiated a contract where I would be paid beyond my useful years for doing absolutely nothing at all.  Once any talent I had was completely gone, instead of living off my pension or social security, I would get paid a ridiculously large sum of money for my “personal services,” but only if I chose to accept it. I mean, you never know.  It’s...

Creeper of the Week: Mark Reynolds

Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Mark Teixeira, Jose Bautista, Ryan Howard, Miguel Cabrera, Dan Uggla, Adrian Gonzalez, Paul Konerko. Nice group, yeah? Those are 9 of the 10 leaders in HR from 2009-2011. Pujols, Fielder, Teixeira, Howard, Cabrera, Uggla. Listed there are 6 of the 7 players to hit at least 30 HR in every season from 2009 through 2011. The player not mentioned in both...

Six Things I Didn't Know Yesterday

DID YOU KNOW? While the world has obsessed over Matt Kemp's awesomeness and Albert Pujols' terribleness and Jamie Moyer's oldness and Bryce Harper's youngness, professional baseball has also been played by at least like fifty other people! It's a thing I'd forgotten for a while, what with those things, and the unmitigated disaster that has been the Twins...
