Update from last week: Torii Hunter continues to have a great year. Continue to start him in all formats. Kendry Morales is cold right now, but he's been reliable all year so I wouldn't bench him just yet. Chris Johnson continues to sizzle at the plate. He needs to be owned in all leagues. All the Biogenesis suspended players did not appeal, except for A-Rod. Drop them in all non-keeper leagues. Dingers: Miguel Cabrera (1B/3B DET) 99% owned in Yahoo! leagues -- Obviously Cabrera is a must-start and must-own, but the "king" is back. He's batting .429 over the last week, with four homers, 11 RBI and a .515 OBP. He's the best of the best and there's no doubt about it. He even homered off of Mariano Rivera in two games in the ninth inning over the weekend. He's an absolute beast! Josh Reddick (OF OAK) 38% owned in Yahoo! leagues -- Reddick is one the streakiest players in baseball, but right now he's red hot. He has five homers, right RBI and...

Torii Hunter hints at off-the-field problem affecting Prince Fielder

We aren’t in the business of speculating about someone’s life and the impact it may have on them with their play. Sure, we sometimes have knowledge as to why Player A is having a hard time, because their life is playing out in the tabloids. Often times, though, that’s just a silly narrative to entertain the readers and draw pageviews or ratings. We try not to jump to personal...

Torii Hunter implies Prince Fielder is having off-field problems

Prince Fielder is having a down season by his standards, and teammate Torii Hunter implied on Tuesday that the Detroit Tigers first baseman is being affected by some off-field issues. Hunter was appearing on the “Ryan and Rico” show on Detroit Sports 105.1 FM when he talked about Fielder. He was asked about what’s going […]

Tigers’ Prince Fielder Getting Divorced From Wife Chanel

On Tuesday, Detroit Tigers’ outfielder Torii Hunter appeared on the “Ryan and Rico” show on Detroit Sports 105.1 FM, and chose to defend Prince Fielder from criticism that his play this season has been sub par. “Prince is a strong guy, man. A lot of people don’t know what’s going on in his life,” Hunter told the hosts. “But this guy is a strong guy. He’s out there...

Torii Hunter hints at off-field issues for Prince Fielder; Fielder says he’s fine

AP Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder is on pace to hit .261 with 23 home runs in 2013.  That would be seven less home runs and a ridiculous 52 points lower on his batting average from 2012.  He is also looking at a 60-point drop in his on-base percentage.  If you have watched Fielder on any type of consistent basis, it’s obvious that he doesn’t seem right in the box. It...

Iglesias wows despite Tigers' loss

Chicago -- When the Tigers acquired Jose Iglesias from the Boston Red Sox, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski that Iglesias would "make plays you've never seen before." Cherington wasn't kidding. Aside from another Miguel Cabrera home run off a great pitcher in Chris Sale, the Tigers (69-48) did not...

Jose Iglesias makes throw to first while flying (GIF)

YouTube In the sixth inning of Monday’s Tigers-White Sox tilt, White Sox catcher Josh Phegley hit a slow hopper over the head of Tigers pitcher Doug Fister into what should have been no-man’s land.  The only problem for Phegley – there is no such thing as no-man’s land with Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias in the park. Iglesias fielded the slow hopper bare-handed and threw...

Game 2013.120: Royals at Tigers

70-49, 1st place, 6 up on Cleveland and 7.5 on Kansas City. The Detroit Tigers are the best team in baseball. As the sour taste from the last 6 begins to fade, consider how close to 5-1 that 2-4 was. Having done all within their power to chase off one would-be division challenger last week, it’s time to begin the more daunting task of staring down what many feel is the more legitimate...

Living up to hype will be tough for Castellanos

Over the course of the next several months, many of us are anticipating what could be an extraordinary period in Detroit professional sports lore. Enthusiasm should be high. The Tigers are poised to become a playoff team for the third consecutive season; the Lions are embracing a new, mature attitude and appear -- at least on paper -- to be better; and with the additions the Red...

2013 AL ROY: Wil Myers or Jose Iglesias?

USA TODAY Sports The 2013 American League Rookie of the Year is coming down to Wil Myers of the Tampa Bay Rays and Jose Iglesias of the Detroit Tigers. The decision is going to be tough, mainly because Myers has been incredible for the Rays but has played nearly 30 games less than Iglesias. Iglesias started his 2013 season at shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. It seemed he was hitting...

Royals-Tigers Preview

While the Detroit Tigers own a comfortable lead in the AL Central, they have a chance to really distance themselves from one of the teams in pursuit. Detroit tries to extend its season-high home winning streak to 10 on Thursday night when it opens a five-game set against the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers (70-49) had dropped three straight and four of five before bouncing back...
