Locker Room Fantasy Sports takes a look at last night’s fantasy baseball news & notes from Major League Baseball – twitter style – Lets get it started. Leading off… Chris Johnson (2-4, 2 RBI) leads Braves to 10th straight victory. Atlanta’s NL East lead balloons to 12½ games. #ATLvsPHI — SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) August 5, 2013 The Atlanta Braves knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 last night and I’m not sure what is most impressive – the Braves current streak or Chris Johnson’s year so far. Johnson had another multi-hit game, giving him 38 on the season which is two behind the National League lead. When Atlanta acquired Justin Upton from the Arizona Diamondbacks nobody thought it would be Johnson who would have the biggest impact. The guy was considered a throw in and yet… Chris Johnson’s BABIP is so big you need a yardstick to measure it. — Dennis Deitch (@DennisDeitch) August 5, 2013 Even if you give Chris Johnson 452 PAs of league average BABiP to bring him to the stabilization point, his BABiP would still be .360 — Franklin Rabon (@fjrabon) August 5, 2013 Chris Johnson’s .427 batting average on balls in play (BAPIP) is the best in the league. Joe Mauer is the next closest with an average of .384. Keep in mind Mauer has about 100 more at bats than Johnson. Johnson isn’t likely to keep up this wicked pace but he’s making a name for himself in the Braves record books. The last player to finish with a BAPIP over .400 was Jose Hernandez back in 2002 (.404). The league average is usually around .300. Sticking with streaks…. Dodgers have won 14 straight road games, longest road winning streak by an NL team since 1957 Reds (15 straight) — ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) August 5, 2013   During 31-7 streak Dodgers pitchers have a 2.66 ERA – and a 2.44 ERA during 14-game road winning streak — Bernie Miklasz (@miklasz) August 4, 2013 The Dodgers are now 5.5 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West but last night’s win was a lot like Saturday’s win against the Chicago Cubs where Los Angeles lost Yasiel Puig. Hanley Ramirez goes into the stands after catching a foul ball. Ramirez appears to have hurt his right shoulder. He is leaving the game. — Dylan Hernandez (@dylanohernandez) August 4, 2013   Hanley is in a sling. Shoulder not separated. MRI tomorrow. — Dylan Hernandez (@dylanohernandez) August 4, 2013   For what it’s worth, Hanley thinks he will avoid the DL. — Dylan Hernandez (@dylanohernandez) August 4, 2013 Now it’s off to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals in what could be an NLCS preview.   After losing 4 straight to #Pirates, the #Cardinals have gone 3-1 and scored 44 runs in the four games! — Mike Harrington (@BNHarrington) August 4, 2013 Poor Cincinnati. The Cardinals took their frustrations out on the Reds all weekend by pounding them 13-3 Friday and then crushing them 15-2 yesterday afternoon. Five Cardinals finished with two RBI and Lance Lynn struck out 11 over eight innings of work. You can expect more of the same from the pitching staff as they return home. Cardinals play 17 of next 23 at home; their starting pitchers have a 2.65 ERA at Busch this season. — Bernie Miklasz (@miklasz) August 4, 2013     Another impressive effort in a big game from #Rangers Derek Holland. He gets it done when pressure is high. — Richard Durrett (@espn_durrett) August 4, 2013 Derek Holland struck out 10 A’s and gave up four hits in his eight innings of work as his Rangers blanked the Athletics to move to within 2.5 games of the AL West lead.   Since June 1st Felix Doubront has a 2.41 ERA. A better mark than Harvey, Weaver, Wainwright, Hamels, Sale, Greinke, Stasburg, lee, Verlander — Hunter Golden (@HunterGBaseball) August 5, 2013 Wow! It’s true, Felix Doubront has given up only 20 earned runs over his last 12 games. Diamondbacks were no match for the Red Sox yet again and lost 4-0 in Boston.     Good day for former Angels starters. Kazmir, Santana, Saunders 18 combined innings, 3 runs. Haren seven scoreless last night. — Lyle Spencer (@LyleMSpencer) August 4, 2013 Scott Kazmir, Ervin Santana and Joe Saunders all picked up wins but yet the Angels can’t find a pitcher good enough to pitch in Los Angeles outside of Jared Weaver and C.J. Wilson and yes, the bullpen blew another game last night. Angels bullpen since July 23: 1-7, 1 save in 7 chances. — Gerry Fraley (@gfraley) August 5, 2013 Yikes! The Angels bullpen blew three leads to Oakland, three to Texas and one last night to Toronto over the past week and a half.   AJ Burnett complete game. Russell Martin 3-Run HR. Thanks, @Yankees! — Zack D’Ulisse (@740JZD) August 4, 2013 A.J. Burnett went the distance striking out nine Rockies in a 5-1 Pirates win. While Pittsburgh is having success with former Yanks, New York is dealing with this instead…   This summer went by faster than Derek Jeter’s return…. — Ballplayer (@BaIIplayer) August 5, 2013 Derek Jeter has a calf strain and is likely headed back to the DL, but, we could see Alex Rodriguez back in the Yankees lineup today…key word being could. Joe Girardi says he has A-Rod penciled into the lineup for the Yankees. Key word: penciled. #Eraser — ESPN The Magazine (@ESPNMag) August 5, 2013 A-Rod is expected to be suspended today, however, he can play if he appeals the suspension or better yet, Girardi  keeps the eraser in his pocket.           The post Fantasy Baseball News & Notes Update: August 4th, 2013 appeared first on Fantasy Sports Locker Room.
