So far he is 1-0 in his two starts with a 3.38 ERA over 10.2 innings of work. Young faced the Reds back in 2010 where he picked up the win in 5.0 innings of work allowing only 1 ER. Nieuwenhuis Is Building A Strong Case For Rookie of the Year Consideration

Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit his sixth home run of the year last night, a solo shot in the sixth inning against the Reds. Nieuwenhuis has now hit three home runs in his last two games and has four in the month of June which ties him for the most with Milwaukee’s Martin Maldonado among all major league rookies. Nieuwenhuis is starting to garner some strong consideration for the top rookie...

Chris Young solid in third start since shoulder surgery

Right hander Chris Young started for the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon, allowing  just three runs — two earned — on nine hits over seven innings of work, though, he was rewarded with a loss: Photo taken by Michael Baron Young, making his third start since shoulder surgery last year, had another strong outing.  He worked his way in and out of a jam in the third before allowing...

Mets Notes: Ike Davis Heating Up, Duda Streaking, Dickey Domination, Wright One Away From HoJo

IKE DAVIS: Singled in the second inning yesterday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. Davis is hitting .478 (11-23) during the span…The streak is the second longest of Davis’ career and trails only an 11-game run last season from April 17-April 29. He is tied for second in the NL and tied for fifth in the majors with 12 walks this month. LUCAS DUDA: Singled...

Baby steps for streaking Davis as he approaches the Mendoza line

In today’s Fathers Day affair with the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Mets will once again bat Ike Davis fifth in the order behind both David Wright and Lucas Duda. #bbpBox_214361351978618880 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_214361351978618880 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } #Mets Father’s Day lineup vs. Cincinnati: Nieuwenhuis-7, Quintanilla-6, Wright...

MMO Player Of The Week: Slammin’ Ike Davis

Congratulations to this week’s MMO Player of the Week… Through the use of the scorecard, let’s take a look at how Ike Davis did this week: G AB H R 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG 6 20 9 5 1 0 1 6 4 4 .450 This week was a great week for Ike, and a much needed one. He has seemed to have fixed his approach at the plate, has a better...

Ike Davis Is Showing Signs Of Life, Hitting Streak reaches 5 games

To borrow a phrase from the great Walt Clyde Frazier, Ike Davis “is starting to percolate”. We were all wondering when it was going to come, and it finally may have started. More than 2 months into the season Ike Davis has begun to put together quality at-bats on a nightly basis over the past week or so. Over the last 7 days Ike has begun to heat up. He is 9 for his last 16 and...

Don't look now, but Mets' Davis is hot

In many ways, Ike Davis' grand slam in the Mets' 5-0 victory over the Orioles on Monday was even more meaningful than R.A. Dickey's second consecutive one-hitter. The Mets have amazingly come to expect this sort of production from Dickey, who has allowed one hit over his last 17 innings and no earned runs over his last 42 2/3. But they have not come to expect anything...

Father’s Day Fail: Reds Complete Sweep Of Mets 3-1

Recap: In one giant missed opportunity in which the cross town rival Yankees pulverized the division leading Washington Nationals, the Reds came in and completed the three-game sweep, besting the Amazin’s by a final score of 3-1. Chris Young took the hill for his turn in the rotation, trying to avoid the sweep for New York. He started off the day relatively dominant, putting...

Video: Did you see this?

Your browser does not support iframes. Apparently there were spies at Sunday's series finale in New York. Okay, maybe they were just pigeons, but the trio of creatures did spend a longtime around Mets 3B David Wright. Perhaps they were undercover scouts for other teams determined to get a better look at the potential MVP candidate? Let's just hope we don'...

Buy or Sell: Mets

My latest article for The Outside Corner focused on the surprising start of the New York Mets. Here are the bits that might be of interest for fantasy owners... "David Wright has already been worth four wins above replacement (WAR) this season and is hitting at a sensational level (.357/.461/.580) with eight home runs and seven stolen bases. After two straight seasons of...

The Subway Series: A Mets-Centric Review and Preview

The Subway Series: A Mets-Centric Review and Preview By SBRForum.com The New York Mets have always been treated like the Yankees’ red-headed step-brothers, and the Yanks have dished out a few noogies, and more than a few beatings on the MLB picks. From the 2000 World Series to just last weekend, the Mets have usually come out on the short end of the stick in their intra-city battle...

Slump Squirrel And The Pigeon Sisters

A lot of times, a game comes down to one or two at-bats. First at-bat came all the way back in the second inning. Johnny Cueto had just walked Chris Young (whose strike zone you can see from Tiangong 1) to drive in the first run of the game, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis was up with the bases loaded ready to give the Mets a cushion. Cyborg did a good job battling back from a 1-2 count to...

Mets offense sputters versus Reds

After a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays in which the New York Mets offense put up nine or more runs in all three games (29 runs total), the clum’s offense managed just five-runs while being swept at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds. During the bottom of the second inning of Sunday afternoon’s loss, Ike Davis, Daniel Murphy and Josh Thole delivered three-straight singles...
