Call me crazy, but I think the time has come for the Royals to extend Felipe Paulino. Paulino is Super 2 arbitration eligible in 2013 and won't be a free agent until 2015 at the earliest. I think a deal extending him two years with a club option or two might be doable by both sides. A salary breakdown might look like this:2012 - 1.9 Million2013 - 3.1 Million2014 - 4.5 Million2015 - 7.0 Million (club option)2016 - 8.0 Million (club option)Would Paulino go for it? I would certainly think so.Now, the question is, is he worth it? To me, it is a resounding yes. He's the best starting pitcher on the team, IMO. Let's take a look at his numbers since he came to KC:6-7, 3.66 ERA, 1.333 WHIP, 25 G/24 GS/12 QS, 150 IP, 11 HRA, 57 BB, 148 K, 8.9 K/9, 2.69 K/BB.Now, I know that's not ace material, but it is a solid 2-3-4 starter. The Royals are desperate to find reliable starting pitching and they've got a solid one already (maybe two if you count Bruce Chen). It's time fo...

I'm going to leave the "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" jokes to anyone else who wants them... For now...Tonight in New York, Kansas City Royals' 6 foot 5 inch lefty is slated to make his Major League Baseball debut, starting for the Royals in New York against the Yankees. In 2012, the 22-year old Will Smith, is 1-3 with a 4...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - With the loss of top pitching prospect Danny Duffy to elbow surgery, the temptation, of course, is for the Royals to rush another prospect into the major-league mix.
After all, the Royals' youth movement is alive and well in terms of position players, and that young talent gives Royals fans hope of a bright future.
But without Duffy, there is no youth movement...
Felipe Paulino made sure the Royals did not need a long reliever Monday night by throwing 6 2/3 scoreless innings in Kansas City's 6-0 victory over the New York Yankees. Manager Ned Yost had to use only Tim Collins for 1 1/3 innings and Aaron Crow for one inning to close out the shutout. However, Yost knows that won't be the case every night. Many games, the Royals starters...
Why is it that the 2012 Kansas City Royals have won 5 road games in a row, yet they have won 5 TOTAL home games all season? There has to be SOMETHING to explain this besides it being simply that "they are the Royals" right?Take a look at the team stats:IS IT THE OFFENSE?Batting AverageHome- .265 (12th in MLB)Away- .254 (Tied for 9th in MLB)On Base Percentage (.OBP)Home...
Left-hander Everett Teaford was recalled from Class AAA Omaha by the Kansas City Royals and pumped for a Sunday start against the Diamondbacks. It never happened. Teaford went on the disabled list Saturday with a lower abdominal strain. Neither Teaford nor the Royals know how the injury occurred. "It's just over the course of the day," he said. "There'...
While throwing to rookie Salvador Perez in the second half of 2011, Kansas City Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar had his most consistent run of success in his career.
Luke Hochevar has been an enigma for most of his career. Early on, he was mostly bad with a few starts here and there that showed the ability that the Royals saw when they drafted him 1st overall in the 2006 amateur draft...
After spending his first night as a major-leaguer in the bullpen, left-hander Will Smith make a spot start for the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in the series finale at Yankee Stadium. Smith was promoted from Class AAA Omaha, where he was 1-3 with a 4.01 ERA in nine starts. He had allowed 65 hits and 13 walks while striking out 37 in 51 2/3 innings. "We want to see what...
Now, this is the Christian Colon the Royals envisioned when they drafted him with the fourth overall pick of the 2010 draft.
After a slow start, Colon has heated up in the month of May and raised his average to .312 with a .370 on-base percentage for the Class AA Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Colon has three homers, 15 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
That's a significant improvement...
Felipe Paulino blanked New York for the second time in a month, and Mike Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur hit two-run homers to lead the Kansas City Royals over the reeling Yankees 6-0 on Monday night.
New York's bats fizzled once again, going 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position with five strikeouts and a foulout. Booed repeatedly by their increasingly impatient fans, the...
