Prince Fielder doubled in his first Detroit at-bat and the Tigers beat Florida Southern 11-1 Friday in an exhibition game against a local college team.
Fielder, signed by the Tigers after slugger Victor Martinez was injured during the offseason, later scored on a single by Delmon Young that gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Miguel Cabrera, shifted from first base to third to make room for Fielder, stopped a hard-hit ball and threw out the hitter. Cabrera said he felt comfortable playing at third and the transition wasn't hard.
Non-roster outfielder Matt Young, who played 20 games for Atlanta last season, went 3 for 3 and scored two runs.
Andy Oliver, who started two games for the Tigers last season, struck out six and gave up one hit in three innings.

The team rode the coattails of Justin Verlander, who became the first pitcher to take home the MVP and Cy Young Awards in the same season since Dennis Eckersley in 1992. Miguel Cabrera anchored the offense once again, while receiving...

If there was a spring-training award for best clubhouse vibe, it just might go to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Right fielder Jose Bautista adds, "I've been here a couple of years and I haven't seen it like this."
Typical spring-training talk? No doubt. Even lowly teams are...

The Tigers' main early-season storylines have been hashed, and re-hashed, hundreds of times around the Internet this offseason. We all know what's getting the attention -- Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera at third base, the fifth starter spot, Brandon Inge (always), and general defensive deficiencies -- but I think there are still some interesting storylines to follow and question...
It's officially official now: the Tigers' lineup announcement for today's scrimmage against Florida Southern mean baseball is truly back. The only question that this game will answer? Whether Prince Fielder can hit another 600 foot home run.
