At this very moment, Bud Selig is somewhere telling somebody how all 29 big league teams (and maybe the Washington Nationals) have a legitimate chance to win a World Series in 2009. I’m sure of it. And it probably sounds something like this.
Bud: See that? *points at the standings on in the morning paper* The Blue Jays, Tigers, Mariners, Braves, Marlins, Cardinals. and Padres are all in first place. Nobody expected that!
Bud’s Lackey (Not John): But sir…
Bud: 20 teams are at .500 or better! 7 more teams are just one or two games under .500! No team is more than 5 games out of first place! Parity has arrived. This is my greatest accomplishment to date.
Lackey : Mr. Selig, it’s only one week. Those standings...
