TEAMS: Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida State Seminoles
I’ve been on the road a lot the last two days, so no updates over the weekend. I’m in Florida right now, and will be reporting from instructs this week, while getting the final content needed for the 2013 Prospect Guide. The Pirates play at home tomorrow, which usually means one Triple-A game and one Double-A game. You can follow my Twitter feed (@timwilliamsP2) for updates from the games.
**Pittsburgh Pirates 2012 Arizona Fall League Preview. Not as exciting this year as it was last year. Last year’s AFL group was led by Gerrit Cole and Robbie Grossman, two of the top prospects in the system. I’m not sure that any of the guys from this year’s group will crack the top 15, although that’s not to say that there aren’t some interesting names to watch.
**Pittsburgh Pirates 2012 Season Recap. We will have individual position recaps starting tomorrow.
**Pittsburgh Pirates 2012 Rule 5 Eligible Players. We posted this over the weekend. Also includes who I would protect.
**Three Pirates Prospects in Florida State League Top 20. Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon, and Gift Ngoepe, who will be playing in the AFL this year. I’m not surprised that Alex Dickerson didn’t make the list. He didn’t hit the way you’d expect a college first baseman to hit. I’ve also talked to some scouts who aren’t as high on him. I usually reserve a higher ranking for first base prospects until they have success in Double-A.
