DANA WAKIJIFOXSPORTSDETROIT.COM DETROIT -- Anibal Sanchez doesn't believe it's anything to worry about, but he doesn't want to make a minor problem worse. Tigers manager Jim Leyland announced Saturday afternoon that Sanchez would not make his scheduled start Sunday due to shoulder stiffness. "It's not my shoulder, it's my back," Sanchez said. "It's part of the back of the shoulder, nothing front. I know that people would say about my shoulder, you got a lot of concern. But it's not my shoulder. It happened one time last year in the first inning of spring training. I just missed one start, I take a couple days off and get ready. Nothing bother me the rest of the season." Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said they did not feel the need to do an MRI as Sanchez has gone through this before with the Miami Marlins. "He fatigued out a little bit quicker in the game the other day after seven innings, obviously, 100 pitches," Rand said. "So we just continued to do normal work getting him ready for this start. He just didn't recover quite as well. He threw a side yesterday and was OK. But the prudent thing is to miss a start and get ready for the next one." Sanchez said he didn't think fatigue is the problem. "I think it's more tight," Sanchez said. "It doesn't let me go all the way through so that's the problem why I need a rest." Sanchez did throw a side Friday, which went fine, but the decision was made to give him one start off just to be sure. "I feel good. I'm not feeling 100 percent," Sanchez said. "I don't want to make anything worse. But I feel good, my ball comes through nice and easy, go hard, my location is pretty good. I don't have anything to worry (about). I just want to take care of this right now and get ready for my next one." Leyland said they would make a move after Saturday's game so they can call up Jose Alvarez from Triple-A Toledo to start. Alvarez is 5-4 with a 2.42 ERA in 12 starts. He has a WHIP of 1.01 and leads the International League with 76 strikeouts in 74 13 innings. DOTEL UPDATEThe Tigers plan to move right-hander Octavio Dotel (right elbow inflammation) to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Alvarez. "Dotel's playing catch down in Lakeland, continuing on his rehab," Rand said. "He's not ready yet." BULLPEN REPORTJoaquin Benoit and Jose Valverde have both pitched two days in a row so Leyland said he'd prefer to stay away from using either of them Saturday. "I could probably use them but I'll check into that deeper before the game," Leyland said. "I want to be real careful. I don't want to get greedy."
