Florida Marlins: Bryan Petersen optioned, Brett Hayes recalled

In advance of the four-game set with the Mets, the Marlins optioned outfielder Bryan Petersen to Triple-A New Orleans and recalled catcher Brett Hayes. Having that third catcher on the bench enables Fredi Gonzalez to pinch-hit John Baker and Ronny Paulino at will. Gaby Sanchez was designated as the emergency catcher, but on some occasions he exits late in games to accommodate Jorge Cantu’s slide from third to first…. Brian Barden is getting the start today at second in place of Dan Uggla, who is 1 for 19 with 10 strikeouts all-time against Santana… In other news, Doug Mientkiewicz has arrived in New Orleans. He intially spent a few days in Jupiter with extended spring training after the Marlins signed him to a minor league contract.
