Sun Sentinel:
That tryout didn’t last long. Doug Mientkiewicz, who recently signed a minor league deal with the Marlins, appeared in four games with Triple-A New Orleans before the Marlins released him. Mientkiewicz batted .250 (4 for 16) with a double, and RBI, two walks and four strikeouts.
The Marlins had to make a quick call on Mientkiewicz. His deal included a one-day out clause for Friday. The Marlins chose to cut him loose before he could exercise it.
