During the offseason the Phillies decided to trade one of their starting five pitchers, Vance Worley to the Twins. In return the Phillies received center fielder Ben Revere. Ben Revere has the tendency to reach base a lot and has speed, which will help the Phillies. However, the Phillies it seems lost a strong arm.
Yesterday the Minnesota Twins announced that Vance Worley will be the Twins opening day starting pitcher. He will be facing Justin Verlander on Monday.
Worley this spring had an ERA of 5.73. He pitched 22 innings and gave up 34 hits along with 16 runs. Three of those runs were homeruns, which is a low number.
Last year with the Phillies Worley had a record of 6-9. His ERA was 4.20 with 133 innings pitched. He gave up 154 hits, only 12 of them being homeruns. Worley had the 3rd highest ERA among starters last year, with Halladay and Blanton following behind him.
The Twins would have given the nod to Scott Diamond but he is starting the season on the disabled list. This is ...
