Found May 04, 2012 on Redlegs Review:
Remember this guy? There's a hitter in the Toronto Blue Jays lineup that's currently wreaking havoc on opposing pitchers right now and his name isn't Jose Bautista. His name is none other than former Red Edwin Encarnacion, and he's terrorizing American League hurlers without even picking up a glove. The error-prone third basemen turned designated hitter is thriving in his new role as the Jays' DH. Entering play on Thursday, Encarnacion led the AL in total bases (66), was tied for the league lead in both homers (9) and extra base hits (17), was second in RBI (24), and was third is runs created (24.1). He's also sporting a team high .320 average and 1.057 OPS. Not too shabby for a guy who the Reds gave up on just two and half years ago. They had seen enough of his sub-par defensive play at the hot corner, coupled with his on-again, off-again bat, that they decided to ship him to Toronto along with pitchers Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart in 2009...

Omar Vizquel May Call It Quits

When you think of all-time great shortstops, Omar Vizquel may get overlooked, but for those who know baseball, Vizguel is most likely top five on the list. Now at 45 and currently playing with the Toronto Blue Jays, Vizquel looks to be calling it a career after the current season. While he is not sure, he is definitely

Brandon Morrow emerging

Brandon Morrow of the Toronto Blue Jays has been wicked awesome (as they say a lot here in Maine). He has now thrown 20.1 innings of scoreless baseball and has won his last three starts. Naysayers will say, well two or three starts do not mean much in the grand scheme of things and his last two dominant starts have been against the Mariners and Angels--not exactly offensive juggernauts...

Blue Jays 11, Rangers 5

Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run homer, Kelly Johnson added a two-run drive and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Texas 11-5 Wednesday afternoon, giving the Rangers consecutive losses for the first time this season. Yunel Escobar had three hits, including a bases-loaded triple in a six-run fourth inning, as the Blue Jays took two of three from the AL West-leading Rangers. Texas has not...

Rangers bombarded by Blue Jays bats

One rough inning doesn't derail Blue Jays' Romero

Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Romero has good luck against the Texas Rangers. After his first four starts against Texas, he was 2-1 with a 0.92 ERA. The Rangers had their best game against Romero on Wednesday, scoring five runs against him, four in the fifth inning when he walked the first three batters after being presented an 8-1 lead. That made it close for a while...

Blue Jays 5, Angels 0

Brandon Morrow pitched a three-hitter for his second career shutout and J.P. Arencibia hit a three-run homer to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night. Morrow (3-1) won his third straight start, striking out eight and walking none to help the Blue Jays open an 11-game trip with their fifth win in their last six overall. Toronto added...

Omar Vizquel pondering retirement

Omar Vizquel's last multiyear contract expired in 2007. Ever since, baseball observers have speculated about when the Venezuelan marvel will retire as a player. It appears we have the answer. "I think this is going to be it for me," Vizquel told FOXSports.com Wednesday morning. "This is going to be my last year." Vizquel left himself some wiggle room, saying...

The Runs Will Come Out Morrow

I liked me some Brandon Morrow, but I’m thinking of the old Morrow (not Edward Murrow) that had no control and sat down hitters like he was a furniture salesman whose favorite line was, “Try it out.”  I talked briefly in our last podcast about Morrow.  Rudy tends to think Morrow is a new and improved pitcher.  I think Rudy’s standing too close to a newly-glued diorama...

Santana's solid outing spoiled in loss to Jays

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Henderson Alvarez pitched his first major league shutout with a six-hitter, Jose Bautista homered and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-0 on Friday night. Toronto handed Ervin Santana his sixth loss in as many starts this season and kept Albert Pujols homerless. Alvarez (2-2) threw just 97 pitches, striking out three and walking one. The...
