Not only did Rich Hill spend much of the last three seasons with the Red Sox, the left-handed reliever native grew up in the Boston area, as well.
A native of Milton, Mass., Hill was deeply affected by the tragic events that occurred near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Hill says that his father ran the nation’s oldest marathon no fewer than 24 times, with the younger Hill watching the conclusion of many of those races not far from the spot of Monday’s explosions.
Now with the Indians, reunited with former Sox manager Terry Francona, Hill sat down with NESN’s Jenny Dell during Red Sox Gameday Live presented by DCU prior to two teams’ series finale in Cleveland on Thursday.

The Sox just released their lineup for tonight's game against the Indians and there's one major omission: Will Middlebrooks. Will will be replaced by Pedro Ciriaco at the hot corner after going two for his last 30.
Aside from that Toronto game in which he hit three home runs a combined 6,000 feet, Middlebrooks has been atrocious this year. He got off on a bad foot by playing...

As far as David
Ortiz and Pawtucket Red Sox manager Gary DiSarcina are concerned,
that’s where the Boston designated hitter should be Friday night when
the team begins a homestand against Kansas City...
Jon Lester and the Red Sox have looked motivated since spring training, but Monday’s Boston Marathon tragedy has placed some extra meaning on this season.
Lester turned in another solid performance on Thursday, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings while winning his third game of the year. Shortly after the Red Sox’ victory, Lester took to Twitter and explained that...
It’s not goodbye, Jackie Bradley Jr. It’s simply see you later.
Bradley has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket in order for David Ortiz to be activated, according to CSNNE.com’s Sean McAdam. Bradley will reportedly join the PawSox in Rochester on Friday, while Ortiz will join the big league club in Boston.
Ortiz, whose 2012 season was derailed by an injury, has yet to appear...
Game 14: Red Sox win 6-3
The Red Sox got to Justin Masterson early and Alfredo Aceves pitched well enough to give another win to Boston. The Red Sox also flashed some leather to keep some Cleveland runs from scoring, and Mike Carp's first start went very well, as he hit two doubles and a triple. Here are the four at bats that changed the game:
1) Top of the first inning,...

In wake of the manhunt in Watertown, Massachusetts and the surrounding area for suspected Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnev, the Boston Red Sox have announced that tonight's game at Fenway Park with the Kansas City Royals has been postponed. The area is still under a civilian lockdown, and with gametime approaching and Tsarnev still at large, it simply makes sense to postpone...
Sometimes you just need to go where everybody knows your name.
The sitcom Cheers‘ run ended in 1993, but it’s still an enduring piece of Boston culture and features one of the most well-known theme songs of all time. It’s also baseball-relevant, since main character Sam Malone was supposedly a former Red Sox relief pitcher.
However, on Tuesday the show’s theme, “Where Everybody...
The Boston Red Sox continued their hot streak winning their 5th game in a row, the second in Cleveland. 15 hits by the Red Sox lead the way, with the team getting on the board early and often. Indians pitcher Justin Masterson was tied for the MLB lead in ERA but lost that after the Red Sox hitters roughed him up early. The Red Sox are currently 10-4, and are 9-0 when scoring first...
The MIT police officer killed during the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects was the brother of a machinist for Hendrick Motorsports, bringing the events of this past week closer to home for NASCAR teams already rallying around the tragedy.
Sean Collier, who began working for Massachusetts Institute of Technology about a year ago, was found shot to death late Thursday...
We all know that NESN Boston Red Sox play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo carries a ton of extra stuff around in his "man bag".
Well apparently mustard wasn't one of those things he had because it turns out he stole some from the Indians cafeteria.
Here’s another cool gesture made by a college athletics program. Mississippi State’s baseball team wore hats with the Boston Red Sox “B” for last night’s game.
